Period 2- Net Games

Due Date: Wednesday, November 7th

We are currently playing doubles in pickleball.  This week when you are playing use 2 different formations ( side by side and front-back) during an entire game.  Which formation works better for your team?  Why? Depending on the opponent you are facing would you use a different formation? Why?

the front-back formation works better for my team because when one is in front and another on the back it is easier to control every ball that comes to our court, because the one on the front tries to receive balls between him/her and the net much using the volley, and the on the back receive ball that the partner on the front wasn't able to receive .

yes, we would use a different formation depending on our opponents because they may be used at hitting balls at a long distance so in that situation we can use the side by side formation .

Both formations work well for our team but we usually play side by side because we are both able to hit the ball correctly and my partner is good at the backhand. Depending on the opponent, we don't change formations from side by side but the stronger player of our team will stand diagonally across the net from the opponent's strongest player so he could return the difficult serves and other hits from that player.

Our team mostly uses the side-by-side formation when playing our games. I believe this works better for our team, as we've tried the front-back formation, and end up returning to our side-by-side positions anyways. However, depending on the opponent, we would probably switch formations if the opponents are known to hit certain-distanced balls.

The front and back formation worked best for my partner and I because when we stood side by side and the ball came down the middle we assumed the other person was going to get it. This in the end lost us a lot of points. I think it does matter which formation you use based on your opponent because if the opposing team has a strong server who hits farther from the net then you may want to stand side by side to reassure that the whole back is covered

J-Lo and use side to side in the back. this is because it is easier for us to decide who should hit it. Also, it is always easier to run forwards than to run backwards for a ball

For my team, a side by side arrangement worked best because we were both allowed equal opportunities to hit the ball and we both covered an equal amount of the court. However in some cases a front and back formation worked well like in instances when the opponent was less aggressive and we were able to move forward to hit the ball quicker and harder without the bounce to win an easy point.

For Allison and I, the side by side formation works better because we can both immediately take front balls and balls that go behind us more easily. if we were facing a team that is usually on the defensive, we would switch our formation to front and back for more effective smashing.

I think the side-by side technique works the best for my team. I'm not very good at pickeball. If my team played front and back and my partner missed the ball up front, I wouldn't be able to get the ball in the back. Also, I can't really see the ball coming when my partner is in the front. When we play side by side, my partner gets the ball on the right, I get it on the left. It work the best for our team

The formation that we used what side by side and i would work with any opponent. It worked the best because it was easier to stand that way without hitting eachother with the ball.

I think that the formation depended on our opponent. If the opponent was tougher, then we might have done front and back and call for the ball. We might play side to side during an easier game but we usually stuck to front and back because that was most comfortable (that and one of my partners likes to slam the ball and is pretty good at it)If the opponent tended to hit far, we might switch to side to side but we mostly stuck with front and back.

Both formations worked well for our team. However, the side to side was easier to manipulate because we could change our positions depending on the strength of our respective opponents (diagonally). The side to side also allowed us to reach balls that hit the sideline and went out, although many times, it allowed the center to be vulnerable to attacks down the line.

I belive that the side side formation worked better for us because we were able to cover more ground and not have to worry about one person trying to "hog" the ball too much like the front and back formation tends to have. But we ended up swithching to front back a lot because we usually face opponents that were hard hitters so we needed someone to volley to ball back.

The side-by-side formation works better for our team, because it gives you and your partner an equal chance to hit the ball. If we used the front-back formation the person in the front hits the ball 90% of the time at least for my team.

No, I wouldn't use a different formation for the same reason and we were already used to side-by-side so changing it would be difficult in itself.

For my team, a side by side formation for doubles worked the best because we were both allowed equal opportunities to hit the ball and we both covered an equal amount of the court. We would have to change our formation because they would sometimes hit a close shot to the net and make it difficult to return if we are both side to side in the back court.

Our team only uses the side by side formation when playing our games. I think that it works a lot more than the front back formation because there is no confusion. If it lands on my side, i get it and if it lands on my partners side, she gets it. I guess that we might use the the front back formation depending our opponent. If they hit very short and long hits, then we would use front and back (though we don't really). However, most opponents just hit the ball near the center of the court so that is not needed.

Both Side by side and front/back work well for our team because my partner likes to crazily run around on his side of the court. Often during games, we alternate positions to suit the situation. Both formations work well because it gives the team an equal opportunity to hit the ball.

Both work well, but for me, I prefer the side by side because that way we don't have to worry about which side the ball is on. We can see the ball at better angles, whereas in the front I can't see the back and the person in the back can't see the front that well.

Teddy (Bear) and I thought side-by-side was the best formation to use, because this way, we can cover more space when standing side by side.

However, depending on the opponent, i think we should use a different formation, because if one of our opponent hits long shots and the other one hits short shots, we can't just stand in the middle of the court. I think we would have to use a formation like we would have in tennis-one in the front and one in the back. this way, if our opponent hits a short shot, the one closer to the net can return with a short shot or smash it all the way back.

the side and side formation worked best for Catherine and me. we didn't have to "call" the ball, ti was pretty clear who was going to get it. sometimes, when the game got more intense, we naturally moved into a front and back formation, which suited us best in said situation.
