Period 3 Advanced Basketball

Due Date: Wednesday, September 28th

Basketball history and rules quiz. Please answer the following questions to the best of your ability. Each question is worth 2 points.

1. Who invented the game of basketball and where was it invented?

2. In high school basketball, how long may a defensive player stand in the paint without guarding anyone?

3. How many total players are on the basketball court at one time during a high school regulation game?

4. What position does a smart offensive player always get in when they catch the ball?

5. Name and explain 2 moves that we worked on in class to attack the basket and get past the defense. When would you use this move?

4.3 point stance- dribble, shoot, pass

5-The spin move is very effective you could use this when you have a 1 on 1 match up. And the Up and under is good if your in the paint.

5. One move is the strong side drive when use your dominant side to get to the basket. Another move is the crossover to quickly change direction to beat a defender. You would use these moves when you're on the perimeter in triple threat, and you feel you can beat the guy guarding you.

5.A jab step is when you put your foot forward to see how the defender reacts, so you can base your next move on that. You use it when you are farther away from the basket.
Posting up is when you make space with your body to get the ball and then score. You use it when you are down low.

5. Jab step is used to fake out a defender and see what move they are anticipating you to use, jump shot or drive by. Step back is used to get separation from a defender and get a clean shot off.

5. Jabstep strong side drive, you would use this move if the player is playing right on you and you can blow by him

Jabstep shot. If the person goes back on the jabstep then you can shoot it if he gives u space

5)Strong side jab, use it when the defender is playing up on you. Jab cross, use it in the same situation to fake the defender into thinking you are doing a strong side jab

4) A smart offensive player will always get into "triple threat" when they catch the ball.
5) One move is the stong side drive. When you are in triple threat, you would jab step, long step, then dribble. The second is the crossover drive. When you are in triple threat, you would jab, bring and cross the ball over to the other side, take a cross step with your right foot, then dribble.

5. a. jab step, keep pivet foot down and jab your other foot towards your defender, used when at the 3 point line to create space and shoot or drive to the basket b. drop step, shoulder fake baseline then drop your other leg around your player, power dribble and go for put up the shot, used when on the low block of the paint

5. -Jab step is when you go into triple threat and jab your non pivot foot towards the defender to get them to back off a little bit which would create space and easily allow you to shoot over the defender. You would use this move if you are being tightly defended to create space and allow to either shoot or drive past the defender.
-Drop step is when you are standing on the post block with your back turned towards the defender, fake towards the lane with your shoulder only, then step backwards with opposite foot, clearing out your defender then taking a power dribble, then completing your step, and then easily laying up the ball. You would use this move if you have not picked up your dribble and if you are looking to score a close range shot.

1.) James Naismith-Springfield Massachusetts(aka the name for the NBA Hall Of Fame)

2.)a player can stay in the paint usually for 3 seconds without guarding someone in the NBA and college level but high school dosent really tell.....i guess it just depens on the referee i guess.

4.)The triple threat position is the smartest position
5.) post up method and triple threat drive move to get to the basket, you would use it based on what the defense gives you.

1.Basketball was created by James Naismith who was a Canadian Phys Ed teacher who invented the game of basketball in 1891 in a Y.M.C.A. training school.

2. Three Seconds.

3. There are at most and least 10 players on the court.

4. A smart player would get into the triple threat position.

5. The step-back which is when the defender thinks your going for the shot but you step back and shoot it leaving more room in a sorta of fadeaway position. Another move is the drop step when your posting up near the paint. You would use these moves when attacking the hoop and making space to shoot or score.

5.)*drop step to lane - recieve ball outside of paint ontop of block, shoulder fake baseline then extend foot towards the paint and shoot a close jump shot. use when defender takes away the baseline while backing down,
*jab step, to make them back up so you can shoot.

Jab step- when a player holds onto the ball before dribbling while his non-pivot leg performs a routine jabbing. This move is used to test defender's defensive weaknesses and stance.

Drop step- the player posting up takes a back step on the side of a defender behind him and spins to that side to gain leverage. This move is used to get separation between yourself and the defender in the paint for an easy layup.

5. Jab step, jab towards defender with non pivot foot to create space. Drop step, take non pivot foot and wrap it around the defender. I would use jab step if I was on the wing. I would use the drop step in the post.

5)The strong side jab, and jab cross. Both of these moves would be used to get past the defense when they are pressuring you while in triple threat.

5.the jab step is where you skip your dominant foot forward to get the reaction of the defense so you can eather strong side drive, where using your dominant side to get to the basket, or you pull up for a shot.you use these moves on the perimitor of the 3 point line.
