In our 3 on 3 unit we have discussed several ways to create space on offense to get open. Please explain how to correctly use a pick and roll, a curl, or a fade to create space from the defender. How important do you think it is to be able to read the defense? Why?

On a pick and roll one guy sets a pick on your man, and after you move past it, the guy who sets the pick rolls towards the hoop looking for the pass
The curl is when someone sets a pick off the ball and if the man guarding you comes behind you on the pick then u touch shoulders with the guy who set the pick and goes toward the hoop
A fade is the same thing as a curl, but instead the guy guarding u tries to cut u off around the screen and then u fade out towards the corner 4 the jump shot
It is important to know how to read the defense because that way your offense will be more effective with less turnovers and more easy shots

If your defender follows you around the pick, you should curl and run directly towards the hoop to make a lay up. If your defender goes around the pick, you should change directions and it will fake out the defender and you will be open to take a shot. It is important to be able to read the defense because when you play good teams you won't have any offense if you can't create space to make points.

When using a Fade your teammate must create some kind of contact with the deffened, then use to contact to quickly Fade back into an open area to spot the open shot. It is very importanat to be able to read the defence because then you can predict what the defence might do ultimatly giving you the upper hand.

When your teammate has the ball you run up and stand next to his defender. When your teammate moves, you are in the way of his defender and he has an open lane to the basket.

FRED M.>>>when you are top key and you pass it to someone else you are to pick away from the ball and then the third team mate can slide over the pick and get the ball. This works especially well if the defender is one who follows the open guy and so he might get trapped in the net...it also works when the defense does not call a switch in time. Reading the defense is just as because you know if they are playing zone or man to man and you also identify bad match ups and make them pay for it.

I think a pick and roll is when one of your team-mates has the ball, and you set a pick for them. When they pass it to your other teammate, it leaves you open to catch the ball and shoot.

you set a pick then whoever set the pick runs towards the basket then you pass to that person and they score. the curl is when some sets a pick you go past the person hitting there shoulder towards the basket for the score. fade is when some one tries to cut you off after the pick then you go back to hit the jumper. If you can read the defense then you can create shot opportunities and score more and win more

To do a fade, you should PRETEND like you are going to use a pick, but then back off, leaving the defender running around the pick to find you, but you would have already shot the ball. It is important to be able to read the defense, so that you will be able to strengthen your offense.

A pick and roll is when a teamate sets a pick to the defender guarding the ballhandler and then quickly cuts to the basket as the ballhandler passes to him/her. and it is imnportant to read to the defense to have a more efficient offense so you can have more open jumpshots and no turnover

To run a pick and roll the person away from the ball comes up and sets the pick on the guy with the ball. then the guy with the ball runs around the pick while the guy setting the pick seals off his man. Then the guy setting the pick cuts to the basket to get a shot or to get the rebound.
It is very important to be able to read the defense because it enables you to have a more efficient offense. If you are able to see what the defense is giving you, you can make better choices and score more often.

one correct use of the pick and roll the player at the top of the key passes the ball either to his right or left and then goes to set the screen, the teammate then brushes shoulders with him/her and takes the lane to the paint where he will be passed the ball for the easy lay-up.It is very important to be able to read the defense because otherwise you won't score or be able to develop a passing game, which can cost you the game.

on a pick and troll, you set a pic which creates space for your guy to move and when the guy you set a pick on goes after the other guy, you are wide open. It is important to know how to read the defense because otherwise you can't make plays happen
