In our 3 on 3 unit we have discussed several ways to create space on offense to get open. Please explain how to correctly use a pick and roll, a curl, or a fade to create space from the defender. How important do you think it is to be able to read the defense? Why?

Reading the defense isn't necessary at all when you have god-gifted athletic ability such as myself but for some of my lesser classmates its essential,because defenders like me rarely make mistakes if ever,so they need all the advantage they can get, a pick and roll is when one player sets the pick the ball handler goes around the pick the picker rolls and the ball handler throws up an alley-oop this was done by steven sullivan
well when you use the pick and roll ur supposed to pick your teamates defender and as ur partner gets away from his or her defender you roll to the basket. the curl is u pick off the defender and u roll back to the three pointer or where ever you are on the floor. the fade is when you fade to the pasket and catch a lob for a layup. it is important to read a defense cause if you dont your opponents are going to score and probably win

Pick and roll would be the best offense because it always gets a teammate open for a easy layup or if you roll back to the 3 point line you have a open 3 pointer for a 3 point shooter. - clement zhang
For a pick and roll, your teammate is supposed to set a pick on your defender. As you move towards the basket, your teammate rolls towards the basket with you and you have 2 options to make, to pass or shoot. Its important to read the defense so that you know what options you have to make.

It is very important to read the defense when playing a game because you want to be able to make a basket for your team and to do so you have to read your defense.

When using a pick and roll, you must first set a pick on the defender in the opposite direction of your teamate in order to create space or to set new scoring chances by going for an easy layup after performing the pick. To correctly use a pick and roll, the ball handler must wait for the screen to be set and then go by right off their teammates shoulder, so the defense can't get between them. After the ball handler passes by, the person who set the pick should open up and seal their man behind them to free themselves up. It is very important to read the defense because, if the defense cheats the screen they can easily steal the ball. And if you read the defense correctly it is easier to make a good play.

In order to successfully use the pick n roll, the screener has to come up and set the screen and then open up to the basket and roll. He then receives the ball if he is open or not. That's one way to create space. It's important to read the defense because if you know what they are in, it is easy to break them down by curling, setting picks and rolling, and cut to the basket or fading.
The pick and roll helped our offense split seems and get to the basket more effectively. It can draw a double team and allow the chance for an easier and better shot.
