Period 4 Basketball

Due Date: Thursday, April 14th

In our 3 on 3 unit we have discussed several ways to create space on offense to get open. Please explain how to correctly use a pick and roll, a curl, or a fade to create space from the defender. How important do you think it is to be able to read the defense? Why?

Pick and roll- You set up a pick/screen to shake a defender off of your teammate. Then you roll towards the basket to receive a pass for an open lay up.

It is very important to be able to read the defense because it allows you to find open space to score.

Pick and Roll: Set a pick and go around the defense after picking the right moment when the defense is off guard
Curl: Avoid the defense in general
Fade: Fade out for more space to create an offensive play
It is very important to be able to read the defense to pick a weak moment to use one of these three techniques to create space for any play, and in basketball timing is as important as the game plan.

A pick and roll is correctly used when the screener sets a solid pick and the ball handeler actually uses it. Then the screener has to roll hard TO the basket or spot up. It is very important to read the defense so you know where everybody is on the court so you can run your offense effectivly.

Well, to do a correct pick and roll your teammate would set a screen/pick if you are handling the ball and then the person who sets the pick would then "roll" behind the defender to receive a pass from the the person who needed a pick. This would help read the defense because you would be able to figure out what would be needed to be done in order to keep the opposing away from the basket.

To use the pick and rol the player with the ball swings it to one side then sets a pick for the player on the opposite side. Then depending on how the defense plays the screen, the player can curl or fade off the pick. this is important to make sure the player will have the most open space off the screen. If the defender plays tight and follows them around the screen then they should curl to the hoop. if they play loose and go around the screen the player should fade for an open jumpshot.

pick and roll- player sets a screen (pick) for a teammate handling the ball and then slips behind the defender (rolls) to accept a pass.

its good to read the defense because, it allows the person to see what move to use.

Pick and roll-you set a pick on your teammate's defender. When you do this, the defender will run into you, and then you move towards the basket and there is a high percentage that you'll be open.

This is important because it results in easy points and it also leads to different people getting open.

Pick and Roll: Set a pick and go around the defender leading to an easy lane to the basket.
Curl: A way to get you open if the defense is playing close to you
Fade: Fade out for more space to create an offensive play if the screen isnt available
All of these offensive strategies can be used to get easy shots on offense

Pick and roll: Set up a pick where you use your body to create a wall for your teammate to bring his defender into and shake lose of him. Then you roll down towards the hoop and look for the pass from your teammate or he may have an open look and then go for the rebound. It is very important to read the defense so you can choose when to utilize the pick and roll or any other technique.

A pick and roll is done when the ball handler is guarded tightly and needs separation from his man. The person who sets the screen should set a pick on the defender and roll towards the basket away from his defender, leaving either the ball handler or screen-er open.

I think it is very important to be able to read the defense because it allows your team to find open shots the defense is giving you, either inside or out.

Pick and Roll: When your teammate sets a pick on the person that is guarding you while you have the ball gives enough space for you to dribble and pass through their defense while they alredy have a player off. When dribbling a wall pass would be good because there should be someone who is running towards the basket.

The pick and roll: you have to set a solid screen on someone who is playing defense. This allows the man whose defender was picked now has room to do work. After you set the screen, you can either cut to the hole for a layup or pop out for the shot. The screen is a very basic play but can help you beat good teams.

A pick and roll is done by having one teammate block off a defender so that the ball handler can get open. The screener then rolls to the basket for an easy basket. A curl is done by having the screener stand at one spot while the other teammate gets low and rolls over top the screener hip to hip and receives the ball facing the basket. A fade is similar to curl except the player notices the defender going around the screen so he/she steps back and has an open shot. Determining whether to use a curl or fade is an example of why it is important to be able to read the defense. You can determine what gives you the best chance to score.

a pick is when your teammate comes up to the defender and stands there. so the correct way to use it would be to dribble to that side so your teammate would block the defender. then, depending on if the man defending your teammate decides to go in front of the pick or behind it, your teammate can curl to the basket for an open lay up or fade away for an open shot. it is very important to be able to read the defense so that you know what to do to be able to get open and score

in order to use a pick and roll correctly you set a pick on the dribblers defender and then once they go off the pick you seal their defender and roll to the basket, like a door opening.

It is important to be able to read the defense in order to execute well and find the gaps and openings in the defense.

On a pick and roll, You set a screen in front of your teammate's defender forcing a switch of who's guarding you and who's guarding your teammate. This is a difficult play for the opponent, so take advantage of the open lane/lack of defender and cut to the basket. Reading the defense is very important, by doing it, you can see the best spots to cut to the basket and you can make predictions as to where the defense will move.

Pick and Roll:Set a pick and go around the defense when the defense is off guard from the pick
Curl:Avoid the defenders
Fade:fade/back out for more space between the defender and you

It is very important to read the defense because then the offense team can counter the defense and score easily.

A pick and roll is used when the person who has the ball is heavily guarded so a teammate goes and blocks their defender from him and then goes open for a shot.
It is good to read the defense to find the best strategy to get open and get a shot.

Pick and roll - A player sets a screen (pick) to the get the defender off your teammate’s back, allowing your teammate to move (roll) to the basket for a lay-up or shot.

It is very important in reading the defense because you need to be able to anticipate what the opponenet is going to do, allowing you to think one step ahead.

The pick in roll is one of the most effective ways to get open on offense. It can free up the man with the ball or the screener. the way you use it is if the defender hedges after the screen you hit the roll man but if they don't switch or hedge then you attack yourself. the fade is used correctly when your defender cheats under the screen to meet you at an expected spot. the curl is used correctly if the defender follows you off the screen and is on your back, you can curl of the screen and beat him to the basket. Reading the defense in basketball is very important because it gives you better opportunities to score and execute your offense.

A pick and roll is when a person screens or picks and then goes around the defender to shoot the ball. It is very important to read the defense because if you don't, you won't be able to get into a good position to shoot.

Pick and Roll is the most important cause you get your defenders confused who to guard and then you can either cut to the masket, fade out or the man with the ball can drive. Reading the defense is very impoortant because that is how you get the ball away from the defense and if you should drive after a pick or pass

in a pick and roll a player without the ball sets a pick on a defender to create space for his teammate. The real space is created though when the pick-man rolls to the basket after setting the pick. You must be able to read the defense because then you can better find open space.
