Period 5 Basketball

Basketball history and rules quiz. Please answer the following questions to the best of your ability. Each question is worth 2 points.

1. Who invented the game of basketball and where was it invented?

2. In high school basketball, how long may a defensive player stand in the paint without guarding anyone?

3. How many total players are on the basketball court at one time during a high school regulation game?

4. What position does a smart offensive player always get in when they catch the ball?

5. Name and explain 2 moves that we worked on in class to attack the basket and get past the defense. When would you use this move?

5- Jab step, can be used to both shoot and drive. Also, you can dribble toward the basket, and take a step to the side to have a clear shot.

5. The stepback is when u start to drive to the basket but then u step backwards in order to create space. Also the jab and shoot is when u move your foot fowards like your about to drive, but then move it back and shoot. You would use these when u want 2 create space between u and your defender so u can shoot.

2.In high school basketball, a player may stand in the paint for no more than 3 seconds when not guarding anyone.
3. 10 total players are allowed on the court at a time during a high school regulation game
4. A smart offensive player gets in the triple threat position when they catch the ball.
5. One move we learned in class was the strong side drive. You could use this at anytime in order to drive to the hoop. Another move we learned in class was the cross-over. This move would be used to escape a tight defender and drive to the hoop.

5. The crossover where you receive the ball and trying to confuse your opponent that you are going towards their direction. Used while in triple threat. The sweep where you a make a semi circle down low and pass your opponent and shoot.

5. The Jab step. When someone is blocking you towards one side, you fake moving one way and move the other and shoot. The other one, I don't know what its called, but you take the jab step and pull back and shoot from your original position. It messes the defense guarding you up.

3. 10 Players, 5 per team is the total amount of players allowed on the basketball court at once during a high school game

4. A smart offensive player always gets in triple threat when they get the ball

5a. The Crossover, when you quickly switch hands dribbling the ball and can get past a defender easier so you can attack the basket. Usually used when tightly guarded

5b. Jab Step, to fake one way with the non-pivot foot, quickly go the other way to confuse and slow down your defender while attacking the basket. This is used mainly when far from the basket and have enough room from the defender and everyone else to the basket.

5. we worked on the step back shot where you dribble forward and step back at an angle and the shoot. We also worked on the crossover where you can switch to the other hand and take it to the basket from that side.
