Period 1 Advanced Basketball

Basketball history and rules quiz. Please answer the following questions to the best of your ability. Each question is worth 2 points.

1. Who invented the game of basketball and where was it invented?

2. In high school basketball, how long may a defensive player stand in the paint without guarding anyone?

3. How many total players are on the basketball court at one time during a high school regulation game?

4. What position does a smart offensive player always get in when they catch the ball?

5. Name and explain 2 moves that we worked on in class to attack the basket and get past the defense. When would you use this move?

James Naismith invented basketball in Almonte, Ontario. a defensive player can stay only 3 seconds in the paint whithought guarding no one. they are 10 players on the court at once. the best position for an ofensive player to be in is the 3 point stance. the two moves are the stepback move to create seperation from the defender. the pivot more to also create seperation

5.We worked on the jab step and rip through move to get past the defender and also the step back move. You would use the first move when the defender plays tight and you would use the second move when you are going to the basket and you want to create space.

The man who invented basketball was born in Almonte, Ontario, Canada on November 6, 1861. At nine years of age, James Naismith became an orphan. Both of his parents died within three weeks of each other. After high school, the man who invented basketball finished his first of four degrees from McGill University in Quebec.

4.the triple threat misses diar,the offensive player will catch and then square their body to the basket enabling them to have 3 options,thus the signifance of the triple threat, u can either launch the ball towards the hoop,throw the ball at the ground,or take a time out
5.the jab step and the pump fake, you would use these moves when u have reached the triple threat position and desire to attack the basket,u will find yourself on the wing

5. jab step crossover and jab step drive, the first one u jab cross over and go up after blowing by the defender, the other you jab get them off guard then drive.

1. In 1891, at the International YMCA training school in Springfield, Massachusetts, James Naismith was given the task to create a game to be played during the cold winter, a game later known as "basetball"

5.Jab, when a guy is playing tight defense to create space to make a move and let him know you can drive to the hoop. Also, the step back allows you to create space to take a shot.

5. Jab strong side drive works well to get by a defender guarding you tightly. Jab crossover works well when a defender is guarding you tightly and cutting off your strong side.

5.) The Jab Step: you take a small step and then you follow through to the basket. The Jab Crossover: you take a small step, swing the ball to the opposite side and follow through to the basket. You use these moves when you have a defensive player on you.
