Period 1 Team Games
Due Date: Wednesday, May 12th
We are getting ready to start our softball unit which a fielding and stiking game. Explain why defending space and defending bases are crucial to being successful in this game.

Nickalia Defending a space and defending bases are crucial to being successful in the this game because if you don't defend the space and the bases your oppnent will win.
Defending space is important because if there is noone in a certain space, then the other team could hit the ball right to that spot, and noone would be able to get there it time, allowing the batter to get on base, or even make it to second base. Defending bases are important because lets say the batter hits it to the outfeild, and someone there picks it up and gets rerady to throw to first to try and get the batter out. If noone is on first to catch the ball, there is no chance of getting the batter out.
Venu Ganti- Well in softball, it is crucial to defend space and bases, to be successful and even win. It is very important to defend space, since if you can defend a space, then the batter, will not have a higher chance of scoring, also it is better to watch it safely to avoid any mess ups. It is also very important to defend bases, since if the fielder is too far away from the bases, the runner will have a easier chance of reaching the base, it is also good to do this , because you protect the base, and the fielders, can easily pass to a basemen, to get the batter out faster.
Well when fielding it is crucial to know how to cover space. The more orginized the fielders are in covering space, the more is covered. The more space is covered, the harder it is for the other team to get points. Covering bases helps get opposing runners out and avoids long distance, unaccurate throws. Instead of 1st to 3rd, it can go 1st to 2nd to 3rd. Also when hiting, if you know how to cover the field as a fielder, then you will know which parts of field are less covered by the opposing team.
Defending space is crucial because it limits the oppurtunites for the opposing team to score and get to a base. If a base is convered well, the player who strikes the ball will have more difficulty getting to first base or beyond. Therefore, it will be more difficult for them to score. Keeping the opponent's score down is important so that you do not need to play catch up the whole game, relieving pressure off your team.
