Period 7 - Advanced Basketball

During this semester, we have worked on several topics relating to improving basketball skills.

1. Fundamental skills, and Movement Skills

2. 1-on-1 Basketball

3. 2-on-2 Basketball

Please explain how each of these topics relate to 5-on-5 basketball play (offensively/defensively).

How successful do you feel with each of these topics?

Each topic has made me feel more successful in basketball because I can get the experience of what being on a team feels like even though it might be with one other person.

I feel like I have improved this semester with our fundamental and movement drills because it has made me quicker and i understand the game more. In 1 on 1 I have improved a lot, learning how to blow by a defender and play man to man defense. In 2 on 2 I've worked on teamwork and moving without the ball. I feel like I'm improving and am looking forward to the rest of the semester!

1. Moving off ball and making cuts has helped me a lot in 5 on 5 because it gets me open for a shot or to receive a pass. defensively it has made me stick to my man more and making sure he cant get open off cuts.

2. 1 on 1 basketball has helped me in my 5 on 5 game because it makes me work on my dribbling and making moves to drive to the hoop. it also helps me work on my jump shot. it has also improved my defensive game because i have to use my feet more to make sure my opponent cant get by me.

3. 2 on 2 basketball also helps me in 5 on 5 because i use the pick and roll a lot in both of them. it also helps me defensively on fighting through screens and communication with my teammate.

1) Movement skills have helped me to set more screens and I work on ball handling more. This helps with 5 on 5 in that you have to move with out the ball.

2) 1 on 1 helps me to work on ball handling and attacking the basket. This helps in 5 on 5 with my jump shot.

3)In 2 on 2 you have to set a lot of screens and this helps with working on communicating with my teammate and fighting through screens.

I feel as though as the semester goes on, I will improve and get better in all of these areas.

Movement skills have become very important to me because in a 5 on 5 game you have to be able to move with out the ball in order to get open. I am using the movement skills to create seperation and get open more often. 1 on 1 can relate to 5 on 5 becuase there will be many situations in a 5 on 5 game when you will be in a 1 on 1 situation. I am getting better at 1 on 1 as I am learning to drive to the basket better. 2 on 2 can help you because it works your off ball movement and 1 on 1 skills, which is very important in 5 on 5. - eric lustig

I think that all of the things that we hove worked on helped. The fundamentals helped me ball handling, the 2-on-2 is helping me with me decision making and passing presision. I think all of these things that i've listed will help my team in the 5-on-5 tournament

I think all of these things that i've listed will help my team in the 5-on-5 tournament because of the screening from the 2-on-2 games 1-on-1 offence.

1.Having fundamental and movement skills is very important for 5-on-5 because it helps you play the overall game of basketball. If you didn't know what you were doing then it would not be has fun, and it would be harder to play in general. On defense, one must be qucik on their feet and also change directions quick too. Plus, understanding the concept of helping and sliding helps you play the game. On offense, its important to be able to have a controlled dribble and be able to dribble under pressure, and the only way to score is if you know how/when to shoot the ball too.

2.Playing 1-on-1 hepls with people's individual game because it gives people a chance to try new things the wouldn't normally do in an actual game. It also allows them to know how to defend someone 1-on-1 not knowing what they are going to do, but offensively it helps by practicing how to beat your defender by reading how they are playing yoy.

3.For 2-on-2 basketball, people learn how to move off the ball, and even how to screen the ball. Playing 2-on-2 gives people a chance to see how its like playing with another teammate whereas in 5-on-5 you play with three other teammates. People also start to learn about helping defensively off the ball, and offensively people learn how to move to get open if your teammate is stuck/in trouble.

I feel pretty successful with each of these topics because I know that the more I work on my game, the more I will improve.

Jeff- Fundamental skills help me improve on my ball handling and also the movement drills help me improve in shuffling my feet while playing defense. When playing one v one, u improve on playing man to man defense. In two on two, you work on teamwork. That way when u play 5 on 5, it makes it a lot easier to share the rock.

1. Fundamental Skills/Movement Skills: Both are extremely important in 5on5 play. Not all of us can rely on sheer athletism or speed to get by. Movement is also important, making the defense work instead of standing and being a nonfactor. When people have no fundamental understanding of the game, its game over baby.
2. 1on1 Skills: Important in terms of taking advantage of mismatches and isolation. the ability to create your own shot or shots for others is also a plus.
3. 2on2: Useful in creating mismatches, shots. At times, two man games can dominate the opposition.

I feel sucessful with these topics as far as understanding them. In understanding these three topics, people never have to force anything. But nothing is perfect, and i sometimes force something that is not there. If you understand these topics, you are able to go with the flow, and be a baller. Be a baller, and scouts are gonna watch you like the illuminati. Thank you that is all.- Scott Hsieh

movement off the ball has helped me improve my postition on the court when i get the ball. Better movement helps me to get easier shots for myself. In 1 on 1 i feel like i have improved a lot by realizing that it only takes one move to get past someone and that i need to force people to their weak hand on defense. In 2 on 2 the spacing has really helped me to understand how to effectively get open off the ball. In 5 on 5, my movement has increased and as a result i am getting open shots and fining myself in postions to score and also pass to my teammates.

i think im getting better from this gym class. m inproving my dribbling skills quickness and shot release i gain knowledge from 2 on 2 and 1 on 1 games. these games have made me a overall better and more fundamentally sound basketball player.

all of these skills relate to 5 on 5 basketball because it is essentail to master the fundamental sjills of dribbling passing and shoting before you can become a dominatn 5 on 5 player. you also m,ust learn to move with the baseball and without it to score on a consisntent basis especailly when your teammates on the floor with you constantly change you must learn to play with them and there unique style of play. one on one basketball helps you develope indviidual offensive and defensive abilities. 2 on 2 is the most basic form of teamwork and helps you learn heklp defense as well as attacking help defense. and finsihing over the helper. i feel very successful with these topics not only because mr. j is a great teacher and should stay but becuase i won the one on one competition and the two on two competition. so i feel very successful in how i play in gym class.

Fundamental and movement skills help in 5-on-5 basketball because they are the basics of basketball and movement helps you get open and gives you an oppurtunity to score.

1-on-1 basketball helps you learn how to look to score in a game of 5-on-5. It helps you develop as an individual player rather than relying on your team all the time.

2-on-2 basketball helps learn to work with a partner and also get to know your partner well and be able to work as a team instead of two individuals.

I feel very successful in 1-on-1 and 2-on-2 but I still feel like I need to perfect the fundamental and movement skills we've been learning.
