Period 7- Basketball

Due Date:  Tuesday, December 22nd

In our 3 on 3 unit we have discussed several ways to create space on offense to get open. Please tell me your team name and explain how to correctly use a pick and roll, a curl, or a fade to create space from the defender. How important do you think it is to be able to read the defense? Why?

Don't forget to put your name on the Blog.

A pick and roll is correctly executed if the ball handler rubs his should off the screener's hip and stay low going towards the basket. The screener has to plant both feet and stay strong to set a good screen then turn inside and drive towards the rim. If both players do this space will be created and the ball handler has multiple options. It is important to read the defense to know whether to do a curl fade or pick and roll. If they sag do a fade. If they play tight do a curl. A screener also needs to know which side to screen and where to screen.

My team was Maryland and the way i used picks is when some one needs to create space one one sort of gets in the way of the other teams defensive player its important to read the defense so you can be 2 steps ahead of the other team

Its very important to read the defense, being able to read the defense allows you to either drive, shoot, pass, and etc.

1) To correctly perform a pick and roll, curl, or fade, the screener needs to screen the correct area and then perform their move, depending on the defense. The ball-handler needs to bring their defender to the screen and then use it and read the defense.

2) It's very important to read the defense because if they sag off the screener, he fades, if they are overplaying, you roll and if they go behind the screen, they fade. It depends if the defender goes over or under the screen, and how aggressive theyre playing.

A pick and roll is an offensive play in which a player sets a screen for a teammate who has the ball and then slips behind the defender to receive the pass from the teammate who they set the pick for and get a layup. The curl cut puts the most pressure on the defense, puts the cutter in an aggressive mindset and makes it easy for a shooter to rhythmically line up their footwork for a shot. In a curl you would hit the shoulder of the person setting the screen and do a curl motion to get open for the shot. A fade screen is a screen where the screener sets the screen to screen in the defender and allows the player using the screen to fade away from the ball and find the open space. This screen is difficult to defend because it is not a natural action for most players. It requires the player using the screen to move away from the ball, instead of coming toward the ball, which is the opposite of what most players are thinking when they are trying to score. It is important to be able to read defense because they can guard a screen many ways and if you see they are for instance guarding the roll but not your shot you should shoot if it is in your range and not pass the ball. If you cannot read defense it is much easier to lose the ball by turning it over.

A correct pick and roll occurs when a offensive player sets a screen in an area and rubs shoulders with the teammate. At this point you can do a curl, which happens when the player comes baseline, and curls around the teammate near the block to receive a pass and score with a little more space created by the play. You can also do a fade if a player plays tight which allows the player to create more space between you and the defender by moving away from the ball. It is very important to read the defense because if this is not done, the defense will fall for your plays and play accordingly making your plays useless. If you read the defense you can determine whether to do a fade or curl and play against the defense more effectively.

A pick and roll is when a player set a screen for their team mate that has the ball, and the person that is screening slip pass the defender when the defender is focus on the person that has the ball and than the person passes the ball to the player that was screening.
A curl is when a player cut in from the box line to detract the defender than run back to the free throw line to receive a pass.
Fade is when you dribble closer to the defender but bull back and shoot.
Reading the defense is a very useful and important skill. Reading the defense can get you pass the defender.

In order to either pick and roll, curl, or fade, the teammate that is performing the screen needs to make sure the area is safe for screening, and then the attacker can do one of these moves, depending on the defense, so it is important to be able to read the defense.

Being able to read the defense will lead to more open spaces and more opportunities for driving to the basket, allowing for the offensive team to make much easier and less risky shots.

A pick and roll, curl, or fade is an offensive play designed to get someone open. The screener will need to set a screen to an area, and the person he is making the screen for has to correctly get by the screen and read it in order to gain space. The ball handler will probably go towards the screen in hopes of getting his man off him, or creating space to either shoot or preform a correct pass.

It is very important to be able to read the defense, as no defense is truly impenetrable and if you find a way to abuse an opening in the enemy's defense, you have a huge advantage. So being able to tell how a team plays their defense will allow you to create plays to abuse the defense and score easy points which will probably result in a win.

To correctly use a pick and roll, the teammate picks the defender and then usually cuts to the basket to score. In a curl you roll right off your teammate's shoulder and get the ball and shoot. Our team used the fade screen a lot to free up the shooter so he can shoot a three. Reading the defense is very important, it can determine what you do with the basketball. For example, if the defense plays you tight you can fake him out and dribble to the basket. If the defense is not playing tight you can pull up and shoot a shot.

A pick and roll is correctly used to create space by the player rubbing off of the screener's shoulder and running his defender into the screener. Often times the player setting the screen is also open as a result of the screen as well. I think it is important to be able to read the defense, because if you base your offense off of the defense you'll have more scoring oppurtunities.

To correctly use a pick and roll, one offensive player must set a screen in an area so that the other offensive player can dribble around the screener while brushing shoulders so the defender runs into the screen. After, the player with the ball can shoot or drive or can pass to the screener who will then roll and open up towards the basket.
It's important to read the defense so you know to pass or shoot.

To set a screen your teammate needs to be still and in a designated area. Your point guard must use the screen to create space. You can either drive off the pick the screener can roll or the screener can pop for the shot. It is important to read the defense because if you want to drive to the basket and your defender is playing off of you you should read that and pull up for the shot

well the pick and roll and pick a op are way to get a more favorable match up for the person who has the ball or the person who is setting the screen. the way to do that is to set the screen on an area and not the person and let the ball handler use the pick.

it important to read the defense because it determines what move you should do on offence. it will determine if you should take it to the basket or take the pull up or pass it. also it works the same way for the screen that you could either pick and roll or pick and pop all depending on what the defense dose.

For the person setting the pick it is very important that they set it on a spot not on a person. Also they shouldn't move and stay strong while a defender is trying to get though the screen. For the person who is having some set a screen for them should come off the shoulder of the screen. Then the guy who set the pick will roll to the basket and look for the pass.

It is very important to read the defense because if you don't you might have a pass get stolen and turn it over.

A pick and roll is correctly executed when the screener properly sets a screen in an area then once the ball handler curls off of he or she, the screener flips towards the ball and seals his defender, it is very important to read the defense in these types of situations because anything can happen

Pick and roll, curls, and fades are executed effectively if the screener screens the proper area correctly and the ball handler is able to bring his defender into the screen and read the defense to make the next move. It's important to read the defense because you have to know when to shoot pass or attach the basket based off the space you're given.

You can create space by using an off ball screen. If the defender follows you get low and curl off the screen and go to the rim.

My team really uses all the techniques mentioned in the questions. Me and my teammates set picks on the defense to get the person with the ball open then you roll and get open for a pass. This produces baskets. I also curl to the basket to get passed to and then you can make a layup. It is very important to read the defense. So you know how to get open and where they will and won't be during game play. Being open produces points. And points are important.

2. It is important to read the defense because After you got there moves down and knowing what they do its will be easier to out maneuver the defense, and it will help you know if they go behind the screen you go in front of it.

The pick and roll is correctly executed when a player sets a screen to an area in order to create space for a player who is curling around the screen to get rid of his defender. Certain moves such as fades, screens, and pick and rolls are executed effectively when the screener moves to the proper area, perform a proper screen, and the ball handler is able to bring his defender into the screen, while reading the defense to make our next move. It's important to read the defense because you have to know what to do, such as pass, shoot, or attack the basket based off the space you're given.
