Period 4- Advanced Basketball

Due Date:  Tuesday, December 22nd

In our 3 on 3 unit we have discussed several ways to create space on offense to get open. Please tell me your team name and explain how to correctly use a pick and roll, a curl, or a fade to create space from the defender. How important do you think it is to be able to read the defense? Why?

Don't forget to put your name on the Blog.

We screen an area and then Zack comes off it tight with the yappers and we win. Zack will do this with and without the ball to get open (this includes the curl). Zack will also take fade away three because hes a bucket. Its very important to read the defense because that determines what shot you can take.

Ohio State. My team has a person set a screen on ball defender, once the ball handler moves past him, the screener rolls to the basket, gets the dish and dunks it for the easy point.

It is very important to read the defense. It is important because reading can lead to smart easy buckets.

A pick and roll is when a teammate sets a screen for the ball handler which allows the ball handler to get past his defender either for a pass, pull up jumpshot, or drive to the basket. It is important to read the defense because you need to know how the defense will react to the different ways to create space, which provides an advantage during a time when the defense makes a mistake like cheating on a pick and roll.

Our team does set screens to create space. For a pick and roll, you have to screen an area and the person setting the screen rolls or cuts to the basket. When curling off a screen the person away from the ball runs off of the person setting an off-ball screen to create space from his/her defender. It is important to read the defense because it will help our team find more efficient and easier ways to score.

you use a pick by setting it on the defender.
you then open ball side as the pick setter then roll to the hoop.
you open ball side then if the defender is rolling with the ball handler and the lane is clogged fade out to around top key or corner with hips down hands ready to shoot.

pick and roll - set an on-ball screen and roll to the basket
curl - curl around the screener
fade - take a step back from the defender to get open
It is very important to read the defense because the ball handler can determine the easiest way to score according to how the defense is playing him.

for a pick and roll- you want to set a screen in a area fro your teammate and as soon as they come off your shoulder you want to roll of the person yu set the screen on and roll to the basket
for a curl- with a curl you want to get a screen from someone and come odd their shoulder tightly and curl to the basket
for a fade- you want to pump fake and take a step back away from the defender to create space
i think that it is very important to read the defense because its important to see what they are running and to see what you can do to beat them. for example is a defender is over playing you, you want to make a back door cut to the basket

We use the pick and roll the most. This play allows the person who wants take the shot to create space because when the screener rolls towards the basket. The focus of the defenders shift to the roller creating more space for the person who wants to take the shot. It's very important to read the defense because it allows you to have a smoother offense

Pick and roll- screen and area then roll to basket, look for pass
Curl- curl around the screen to an open area
Fade- take a step back to get a open look and shoot
All of these moves work well when he defender makes a mistake

My team’s name is Ohio State. To correctly use a pick and roll, the offensive player sets a screen for another offensive player who currently has the ball or needs to get open. Then, the offensive player who is getting the pick, if they has the ball, dribbles around the screen and looks to score. If they don’t have the ball then they curl off the screen and look for the ball. The screener then opens up to the ball, and cuts to the basket. It is very important to be able to read the defense because it allows the offensive player to figure out what the best move to do against that defender is. For example, if you read that the defense is overplaying you then you should backdoor cut and drive. If the defense is playing off of you then you should shoot.

to use a pick and roll you must wait for the screen to come, once the screen is there you must come around of the shoulder once you get around the player that set the screen will seal the opposite team and roll to the basket and get the bucket. this play works great in a tight man coverage

We use screens to free up the shooters and coming off you have to read the defense to determine the shot selection
This works well on man defense
