In our 3 on 3 unit we have discussed several ways to create space on offense to get open. Please tell me your team name and explain how to correctly use a pick and roll, a curl, or a fade to create space from the defender. How important do you think it is to be able to read the defense? Why?

Our team always use cut move, V-cut and pick to make more space. We should set the screen than do the cut move to create space and make easy lay up. The people that control the ball should read the movement really clearly and pass the ball accurately。

The screener must make contact with (but not foul, hold or push) the defender that he/she is trying to block. If you do not make contact, and get up tight, the defender will simply slide around you.
2. Be strong. Get your feet wide and plant your feet solidly. Do not move your feet once you have established this position or you will get called for a "moving screen" (a foul). You must be stationary and not move with the defender, and you must not push the defender away. If a defender bumps into you and you are not stationary, you will probably be called for the foul.
3. Keep your arms tucked into your chest, not only to physically protect yourself, but also so the ref can see that you are not pushing with your hands, or grabbing or holding the defender.
4. The angle, or direction, of the pick and the timing of the pick are probably the most important

When using a pick and roll, the ball handler should bump shoulders with the roller while passing to get as wide open as they can, while the roller can either roll to the basket for a layup, stay if the defense decided to double the handler for a mid range, or the ball handler can shoot if they are open enough to make it. It is important to read the defense to choose which option you want from the pick and took as fast as you can so the defense cannot react quick enough, leading to a open basket.

The pick and roll is a good way to create space from a defender, because once you set a screen on a certain area, it will prevent the defender to stay with his man, and if the roller uses the pick the right way, he will have a wide open lane to the basket. The play begins with a defender guarding a ball handler. The ball handler moves toward a teammate, who sets a "screen" (or "pick") by standing in the way of the defender, who is separated from the moving ball handler. The defender is forced to choose between guarding the ball handler or the screener. If the defender tries to guard the ball handler, then the screener can move toward the basket (as the man marking the screener may try to trap or mark the ball handler, giving the screener space) sometimes by a foot pivot ("roll"), and is now open for a pass.

A player sets a screen (pick) for a teammate handling the ball and then slips behind the defender (rolls) to accept a pass. The screener now is in position to receive a pass with a clear path for an easy shot, with the chance of drawing a foul as other defenders move towards the play to try to prevent penetration. Reading the defense is important because it will help the offense coordinate its attack to get past the defense.
