Period 7- Basketball

Due Date: Wednesday, October 21st

Basketball history and rules quiz. Please answer the following questions to the best of your ability. Each question is worth 2 points.  Please don't forget to put your name on the Blog so you receive credit.
1. Who invented the game of basketball and where was it invented?

2. In high school basketball, how long may a defensive player stand in the paint without guarding anyone?

3. How many total players are on the basketball court at one time during a high school regulation game?

4. What position does a smart offensive player always get in when they catch the ball?

5. Name and explain 2 moves that we worked on in class to attack the basket and get past the defense. When would you use this move?

5.step back,spin. You would use step back when you a defender up tight on you. You use a spin if you want to get around someone to get to the basket

5. Strong side drive is used when the defensive player is playing to close to you and not backing off when you jab step.
Jab step jump shot is used when the defensive player is biting or backing off when you jab step, so you have separation and can shoot.

Crossover- you take a jabstep with one leg step with the same leg across and drive

5.You can do a crossover move to get past your defender. You would use this move when the defender is playing you tight. You can also do a jab step forward, which will give you space from your defender.

5. Pick and roll:fake a pick then roll off and get the ball , Post up then fake one way and do a two handed dribble then finish. You can do these in the post.

jab step, take a step forward without moving your pivot foot in order to gain desperation from the defenders, best to use this move when defender is in your face and you need separation in order to shoot

5. Jab step. When you are against a defender first you jab to your left than quickly dribble pass the defender on the right.
Fake. When you are against a defender you first fake a throw than quickly dribble pass your opponent

5 you can use a gab step to make your defender that your going one way when you go the other and to the bucket. also you can use a behind the back move when the defender is in your face use this move to put the ball away the defender and towards the basket.

5. The Jab step catches the defender off guard so you are able to drive to the basket and make a layup. You can also fake with the elbows or arms to the left or right, also catching the defense off guard.
