1. Who invented the game of basketball and where was it invented?

Naismith invented the game somewhere in Maine or Massachusetts.

2. In high school basketball, how long may a defensive player stand in the paint without guarding anyone?

Some high schools allow a maximum of 5 seconds in the paint, other high schools minimize to three seconds.

3. How many total players are on the basketball court at one time during a high school regulation game?

There are ten players on the basketball court during a game. Excluding the reserves on the benches.

4. What position does a smart offensive player always get in when they catch the ball?

A smart offensive player gets in a triple threat stance when they catch the ball.

5. Name and explain 2 moves that we worked on in class to attack the basket and get past the defense. When would you use this move?

One move we learned in class to attack the basket is to catch the ball, fake a turn on the inside and spin outside, dribble with two hands, enter the paint for the layup.
Another move we learned in class is the exact opposite; we still catch the ball, but instead we fake the turn on the outside and spin inside the pain for the layup.

1)James Naismith invented basketball in 1891
2)There is no rule for High School, but in college and the NBA it is 3 seconds
3)10 players
4)Triple Threat
5)Jab Step and Fake Shot. You would use these methods to create space when your defender is guarding you too tightly.

PERIOD 4

1. Dr. James Naismith invented the game of basketball in 1891
2. 3 seconds
3. 10 players total (both teams combined)
4. Triple threat
5. Jab step - if a player seems to be overplaying you and you are deciding whether to drive or shoot, you should jab step so if the defender backs off you can take your shot. If not, you can drive right past them because it forces them to turn their hips.
Reverse layup – you would do a reverse layup when you are driving in for a layup and the defense is strongly guarding the side you are driving in on. With the reverse layup, you force the defender to turn their hips and don’t allow them enough time to block your shot because at that point you have already shot.

1.James Naismith invented the game of basketball in 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts.
2.A defensive player may stand in the paint for three seconds without guarding anyone.
3.There are ten players on the basketabll court at one time during a game.
4.A smart offensive player always gets in a bent position when catching the ball.
5.Two moves we worked on in class were the reverse lay-up and the jab-step. I would use the reverse lay-up if I was trying not to get blocked by my defender or the help. I would use the jab-step to keep the defender guessing in a 1-on-1 situation.

1) James Naismith - Springfield, Mass
2) In high school, the defender can stay in the paint without guarding anyone for as long as they want because zone defense is allowed.
3) 10 players total - 5 from each team
4) triple threat, which allows you to dribble, shoot, or pass
5) from the outside - jab step to...
drive to reverse layup - if the defender is playing you tight, drive past him and do a reverse layup to prevent you from being blocked by the weak side defender
one dribble to shot - creates space from defender
in the post...
up and under - use this when you know the defender typically jumps on pump fakes
drop step - use this when you have good positioning and are able to get in between the basket and defender

Ryad Malti Period 4

1. James Naismith invented it in 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts.

2. A defensive player may only stand in the paint for 3 seconds.

3. 10 players on the court at once. 5 for the home team and 5 for the away team.

4. A good offensive player always gets into the triple threat position when they catch the ball.

5. One move is the drop step. You use this move in the post outside the paint. Another move is the up and under. You use that move when you turnaround and the defensive player is playing tight, so you fake a shot, step through, and take a shot.
