Period 4 - Advanced Basketball

Due Date: Wednesday, October 7th

We are getting ready to start our 2 on 2 unit.  This unit will focus on getting position and making moves in the post.  Watch the video clip below and answer the following questions.  Please make sure to write your name on your blog.

1. Please indicate 2 ways to get position in the post.

2.  How can you give your opponent a different look in the post?

3.  In the video, Carlos Boozer says that size and build or physique do not determine how successful you will be in the post position.  Do you agree with this? Why or why not?

One way someone can get into the post is by v-cutting to the basket.
Another way someone can get to their position in the post is by faking movement to one direction followed by spinning in to the opposite side to hold your position in the post.

One can give an opponent a different look in the post by posting up, turning around on the pivot foot and facing the player. face to face contact will give you multiple options to score on him.

I do not agree. Size definitely plays a huge part on the post position. No one sees Nate Robinson posting up on Anthony Davis. Build or physique does not necessarily matter.

1. you can v cut and fake screen and roll to the post

2.when you get the ball and establish position you can face up.

3.They don't determine it. I would agree and point to someone like Trevor booker who isn't the tallest but still has a great post game.

1. v-cut or set a fake screen
2. face them up, shoot the jumper, jab step, drive by them
3. I agree with him because a player can be small but very skilled and post up successfully due to their skills. It is usually easier to post up if the player is taller, but a short player can also successfully post up if they are skilled.

1.You can use a v-cut or spin to the post.
2.Establish your position in the post and get some contact with the defender to read how he/she is defending you
3.I believe that size and physique can help you with your post game, but as long as you have good, instincts it will not matter what size you are when posting up.

1) To get to the post, you can either v cut or fake screen to spin move.
2) To give your defender a different look in the post, you can face him up. This allows you to do things such as drive to the basket or shoot a jumper.
3) Although being big and strong certainly help, I agree with Carlos that you can still be a successful post player without those attributes because positioning, foot work, and talent all play into it as well.

1) You can use a v-cut or a fake screen
2) You can shot a jumpshot, use a jab, drive past them, or face them up
3) I disagree but only with build because you need to have strength to play a post position.

1 v-cut set a fake screen
2 face them , shoot a jumper, jab step, drive in
3 I agree, because a player can be small but very skilled and post up successfully due to their skills.

1. you can get a screen or you can do a v cut to get open
2.you can either face your defender and do a move like a jab step and drive to the basket or you can post up face your defender and take a shot
3. i do agree with this statement because its all about the determination you have to be successful in the post if you are smaller than the defender then you want to go in strong and draw a foul and make it a 3 point play or go to the foul line.

1. v cut or come off a screen to get open

2. Establish your position in the paint and get a feel for how your defender is guarding you.

3. If you have skills you can create space for yourself in the paint even if your very small. However, doing it often will be difficult because there will be people who will use there strength over you to shut you down.

1. You can v-cut or fake a screen and then seal your defender.
2. You can face up on your defender to shoot or drive, or you can feel your defender in the low post and make a drop-step or up and under to the basket.
3. I do agree because it is about your persistence, intelligence, will and the power that comes with it.
