Period 6 - Basketball

Due Date: Wednesday, December 17th

PLEASE PUT YOUR NAME ON YOUR BLOG

In our 3 on 3 unit we have discussed several ways to create space on offense to get open. Please explain how to correctly use a pick and roll, a curl, or a fade to create space from the defender. How important do you think it is to be able to read the defense? Why?

It is important because you have to make sure that if there is a opening for one of your teammates to score a points in the game.

if you have the ball you wait until you're teammate screens an area. you stay low and fast and go through it shoulder to shoulder, after the defenders switch your teammate will roll and you can feed him the ball. you could also do the same thing but after they switch your teammate will fade and you could give him the ball for a shot or drive, either way it will give you space from you and you're defender. it is very important to read the defense. it is important because if they are in man to man you could use more screens. and if they are in zone you need to pass the ball more to create space.

it is important to correctly use a pick and roll, a curl, or a fade to create space from the defender. Pick and rolls are important becauses they give you the upper hand.curls and fades create space between you and the defender which gives you the otion to either shoot or pass or dribble.

I think it's very important to read the defense because if you don't you will always be getting trapped and can avoid that by attempting to disrupt their defensive setting. Without this skill you will always either find yourself in the corner or having alot of turnovers. The pick and roll is supposed to be used in which somebody is dribbling and a pick is set on the defender which is meant to free up the dribbler and get an easy layup with the player who set the pick, rolling to the basket. A curl is meant to make the defense work and move to catch the player. A fade is used when any other attempt to open fails it's backing up and restarting the play.

A properly performed pick and roll involves a player screening a space for their teammate to use. Their teammate would brush shoulders with the player setting the screen when using the screen in order to ensure that the defender would not be able to stick to the offensive player. The player who set the screen would roll towards the basket after their screen is used by their teammate. I think it is very important to be able to read the defense so that the defense's weaknesses can be used against itself.

pick and roll:
a offensive player sets a screen for another offensive player that has the ball. this is called the pick
the offensive player that has the ball dribbles around the screen and scores.
i think it is important to read the defense so that your team can make space and score, and so that you don't get blocked.

When you use a pick and roll, you go off the screener's shoulder while dribbling the ball and the picker rolls off that shoulder. Then, you kick the ball to the cutting screener. A curl is when you wrap around the screener and cut to the basket, then receiving the pass. A fade is when you partially go around the screen and then pop out for the pass. Usually finished with a jumper.
It's important to be able to read the defense because you need to know which one these options to use. If you don't use the right one, it won't work.

The way a pick and roll works is that a player sets the pick as the other offensive player dribble around him towards the basket. He can lay it up or pass it if he gets covered,
In a curl, the offensive player curls around the screener hoping that the defender gets blocked. Then, they can receive the pass to shoot.
For a fade, you go to the screener, brush by him, then fade to the corner.
If you can read the defense, you will know what plays/strategies to use that provides the best scoring opportunities.

To create space from a defender you have to use a pick. You want to leave no space when you are running a pick and roll, curl, or a fade. I think it is very important to be able to read the defense because if you can rad the defense you can know what to do to create space for a open shot.

To correctly use a pick and role you must set a screen on a defender then spin off of it in order to get yourself open for the ball.
To correctly use a curl you must run to an ideal place to be then somewhat turn around in order to lose your defender and get the ball without it getting stolen.
To correctly use a fade away you must have the ball and get ready to shoot then sort of shoot and jump backwards in order to get the shot off without it being blocked.
I think it is very important to be able to read the defense because you can determine the best way to create space if you have a sense of what the defender is going to do.

Pick: A screen or "pick" occurs when an offensive player attempts to block, or "screen", a defensive player away from the man he is guarding, thereby freeing up that offensive player for an open shot or pass
Curl: Curls are manly used to gain space from your opponent near the wing and take the 3 point shot.

Why is it important to read your opponent: Because it allows you to know the right moment when to set your picks, curls, screens, etc....

A pick and roll is when a player attempts to block the defender and then become open for the ball. Curling is when you move around to get receive the ball ball and get rid of the defender. For a fade shot, you go to the defender brush him a bit and then get open. It is important to read the defense because it allows you to know which technique to use at the appropriate time.

When you use a pic and roll, your teammate comes to set a pic in your area and you stay low and close to the pic so the defender can't follow you. Then as you drive to the hoop, your teammate turns and goes to the rim too so you could either shoot a lay up yourself or pass is to your teammate so they make a shot. Also, using a curl or a fade will create open space because those moves can move you away from the defender. It is very important to read the defender because is you see what they're doing, you can move somewhere else on the court to get a better play.

A pick and roll is a play that can create mismatches, and scoring opportunities. We start with a ball-handler at the top of the key, and another player, preferably a big man. When the ball-handler calls for a pick, the other player sprints toward their teammate, and position themselves so that when their teammate dribbles by next to them, the defender gets caught, and can’t get around to cover the ball-handler. Once this happen, teams will usually switch defenders, and a mismatch is created. The ball-handler and picker have to read the defense, and decide what to continue with. If teams don’t switch defenders, the ball-handler will have a clear lane to the basket for a layup, or a kick-out for a good shot. However, if the teams do switch, and a mismatch is created, the picker will pivot towards the ball-handler, seal the defender off, and follow the ball-handler. The picker now has an open lane to the basket, and if the ball is passed to them, then they have a clear scoring opportunity. It is very important to read the defense. By reading the defense, the offensive players can decide the smartest, and most effective thing to do, and they can get easier scoring opportunities.

The way to use a pick and roll is by picking an oppenants player, and then cutting in the lane once your own player has gone past the pick. There you can recieve the ball and score.
The way to do a curl is by having the offensive player curl around the screener, making it so that the defender gets blocked. This allows the offensive player to recieve an open pass for an open shot.
The way to fade to create space is by catching the ball and then dribling, and then jumping back releasing the ball in the air to assure to not be blocked.
It is very important to be able to read the defense because then you can know what kind of shots and passes will be intercepted or blacked. This is determined by where the defence is when a pass or shot happens in a game.

pick and roll: go around the screener using his/her shoulder
curl: go around the screen to the basket and get open for a pass
it is very important to read the defense because if you don't then the defense will never let you score because they know what your doing but you don't.

your teammate will set a pick when you run by them you brush shoulders and after the pick your teammate will roll and call for the ball

A correct pick and roll begins with one member of the team setting a screen on an area, not a person. Then, the ballhandler brushes shoulders with the screener and the screener seals their defender and cuts towards the basket. It is extremely important to be able to read the defense because it allows team members to find open space where they can make plays

a pick and roll is when a player sets a screen for a teammate handling the ball and cuts to the basket allowing for a shot.
A curl is when a player goes around the screen and the defender is following you so you cut him off. this creates space between you and the defender so you can shoot or dribble.
A fade is when you move back from the defender and make a shot.
I think it is important to read the defense because being unable to read the defense means you won't be able to score any points which is how you win a game.

the pick is roll is when one player sets a screen for a cutting player or the player with the ball. the cutting player has to hit their shoulder with the screener to make space between you and the defender.
it is very important to read the defense because then you know what to do to create more space to get a open shot.

A pick and roll is correctly executed if the ball handler rubs his should off the screeners hip and stay low going towards the basket. The screener has to plant both feet and stay strong to set a good screen then turn inside and dive towards the rim. If both players do this space will be created and the ball handler has multiple options. It is important to read the defense to know whether to do a curl fade or pick and roll. If they sag do a fade. If they play tight do a curl. A screener also needs to know which side to screen and where to screen.

During a pick and roll, a person sets a screen on an area and the man shakes his defender and touches shoulders with the person setting the screen allowing separation from the defender. It is critical to read the defense because basketball is not about doing a move but reacting to the defense. To maximize offensive efficiency, a team must read the defense and analyze weaknesses and mismatches.

To do a pick and roll, a player passes the ball to a teammate, then screens for him. After the screened player gets past, the screener rolls to the basket and receives the pass, followed by a shot.
To do a curl, a player holds the ball after checking it. One of his teammates comes and runs around him, receiving the ball in the process. He then dribbles to the basket and takes a shot.
To do a fade, a player moves backward as he/she is taking a jump shot, which propels them away from the defender in the process.
It is very important to be able to read the defense, because then you will know what they plan to do next and then are able to plan ahead to counteract their next move.

When you set a pick you have to brush shoulders. When curling make sure to have your man run into the pick. Thus you can create space.
It's important to read the defense because if you do then you can find the best spot to shoot or drive.

It is important because you have to be able to block the basket and the person from being able to get the shot. They have to be able to communicate with the player so they can set a pick.

To correctly use a pick, one must place himself/herself to cover not the person, but an area. To correctly use a roll, one must be able to pivot his/her body toward the basket. To correctly use a curl and a fade, one must be able to make space for his/her team mates so that they would be able to move more freely.

To correctly use a pick and roll, curl, or fade you must lead into the pick by bumping their shoulder as you pass and if your setting the pick u must roll off the defender towards the basket and be ready for a pass. It is extremely important to be able to read the defense because if you can you are able to figure out the defenses weaknesses and try to score off of them.

It is important to read the defense because you need to know how the defense will react to the different ways to create space, which provides an advantage during a time when the defense makes a mistake like cheating on a pick and roll
