Period 4 - Basketball

Due Date: Wednesday, December 17th

In our 3 on 3 unit we have discussed several ways to create space on offense to get open. Please explain how to correctly use a pick and roll, a curl, or a fade to create space from the defender. How important do you think it is to be able to read the defense? Why?

In our games, we usually set a pick for the person who just checked the ball. we do this because he will either be able to shoot, drive, or pass without someone in his face. We need to be able to read the defenders so we know when and where to set a screen. This is so because, we don't want anyone being in the way of the man driving, so in our games, we set a screen to the side with fewer defenders.

How to Use a Pick and Roll
1. Ball handler's teammate picks up or screens the defender.
2. Ball handler attacks other defender.
3. Ball handler's teammate runs (rolls) back to get open for a jump shot or layup.

I think it's really important for the offense to be able to read the defense because they will never be able to get a sot at the basket without getting through the defense.

1. For a pick and roll, you use it when a player sets a screen and for a teammate who is handling the ball. But then you slip behind the defender to recieve the pass.
2. For a curl, you use it when a player is being screened, you decide to circle tightly around the screener and "curl" back towards the basket.
3. Fadeaway is when you take a jumpshot while jumping backwards away from the basket. This helps to create space between the shooter and defender making it harder to block the shot.
4. I believe that it is very important to be able to read the defense because if you know what move the defense is going to make, you can counteract it and have a better chance of shotting or passing.

For the pick and roll an offensive player runs in the route of the defender of the player with the ball. They then plant their feet and wait for their team mate to blow by. The player with the ball either goes to the hoop or passes back to the person who set the pick.
reading the defense is essential to a successful offense, with this ability one can break defense and make easier and less contested baskets. Rahul V

Pick Roll- Call for the screen, when the screen comes fake one way to get the defender going one way then go off the screeners hip and then the screener goes to the basket after the screen for the ball handler is finished

Curl- It is the same thing but the ball handler goes to the basket

Fade- The screener fades out for a shot.

It is really important to read the defense because you need to know what they are doing so you can beat it.

to properly use a pick an roll you have to set a screen towards the efender and drop your pivot casting the defender behind you and going to the basket. It is important to read a defense so you can get open and make shots at a higher percentage and get more offesvie boards

A pick and roll can be performed by setting a screen on the defender allowing your teammate to run past him. Next the person who set the screen rolls back towards the basket, creating space and allowing him to catch a pass from his teammate and score. Reading the defense is extremely important since it is key to giving the offense the advantage in creating space. If the offense does not properly read the defense, they will be constantly covered by the defense and will not be able to shoot unless they drive past the defense.

Pick Roll, Call the screen, when the screen comes go off the screeners hip and then the screener goes to the basket. The ball handler goes to the basket instrea of going off the screener's hip. For a fade, the screener goes out and takes the shot.
You have read the defense because you need to know how to prevent the opposing team from scoring.

A pick and roll is when one of your teammates sets a screen for you and you penetrate to the basket or pass it out, also if your teammate sets a good screen it gives you a lot of space to take a shot or drive to the basket. It's important to read the defense because you need to know how the defense is going to react after you make a pass or make a move.

In order to correctly use a pick and roll, you run up to the person with the ball after the team has checked up,then you set a pick so the person can't pass or shoot, once they have passed to their now open teammate you slide off the defense so one of your men can have an open lane to the hoop. It's important to read the defense because if you don't it could cost your team to lose and also could confuse your teammates as well.

1. How to pick and roll: To pick and roll, the person with the ball driving up the court and then slips to the teammate
2. To curl: To curl, you basically do the same thing as pick and roll except this time, you drive up to court and curl to the basket/teammate
3. To fade: To fade is to fade out the enemy and get open for a shot.
4. It is important to read the defender because you want to know which moves to do and when to set the move.

In our games, we usually set a pick on the person who has the ball or the person is making their shots that game. To properly us a pick and roll, you have to set a screen or a pick, in an area so your defender will lean towards the person with the ball. Then you roll to the basket off of your and your teammates defender for an easy layup. It is important to read the defense because in order to win basketball games, you need to score more points than the other team. In order to do that, you have to be able to read the defense to get open for the easy shot and so you can create high percentage shots every time down the floor.

1. For a pick and roll come up and screen your teammates man so that they can get around them and drive to the basket, then seal your man and drop to the basket with them and call for the ball.
2. For a curl, tightly come off the screen on your man, receive the ball and go directly to the basket or pull up.
3. A fadeway is when the ball handler fades away from the basket and shoots the ball. This creates space between the shooter and the defender.
4. It is very important to read the defense because the defense typically dictates the offense you need to run to most likely score the basket.

Pick and Roll: screen an area, making the ball handler come to you without you fouling the defender.
Curl: fake out towards the three point line and curl back inside for a layup.
Fade: someone sets a screen for a person without the ball to go up to the top of the key, sealing the defender of your man after the screen.
It is very important to be able to read the defense because it shows you where you can get open for a shot or a lay up. It also shows you where to attack.

1.) For doing a pick and roll one player sets a pick on another players defender, and that player brushes against his shoulder driving towards get basket. As the player setting the screen feels the brush of the dribbler against his shoulder he turns and cuts towards he basket and gets a pass and scores
2.)' For a curl a player sets a screen off ball and the person runs around the person setting the screen brushing against the persons shoulder and curling Round him
For a fade a person sets a screen on a player and that player fakes a curl and pops out for a jumpshot
It is very important to read the defense because then you can beat them and score

For the pick and roll someone sets a pick on the ball handlers man then as the ball handler makes a move the pick man rolls away and is open for the lay up or jump shot. Reading a defense is important because you must know what the defense is doing in order to efficiently play offense.

1. A pick and roll is used correctly when a player is able to set a screen out of view of the defender and have the ball handler run the defender into the screen.
2. The curl works in the same way as the pick and roll.
3. For a fade to work the ball handler has to be able to keep the defender guessing through a series of moves as well as being inside his range.
4. It very important to read a defense to know what set of moves/play to pull off for that situation. In order to get the easy points.

In out games, we usually set a pick on the player who just checked the ball and is from the other team. We do this so the person on our team who has the ball has an advantage of being open so they can either pass or shoot the ball.

It is very important to read the defense so you know what the other team is going to do so you can beat it.
