In our 3 on 3 unit we have discussed several ways to create space on offense to get open. Please explain how to correctly use a pick and roll, a curl, or a fade to create space from the defender. How important do you think it is to be able to read the defense? Why

When using a pick and roll, the screen setter is supposed to set a screen in an area for the ball handler. The ball handler is suppossed to draw the defender into the screen to lose his man.
It is very important to be able to read the defense, as you will be able to predict their movements and act accordingly in order to create space.

To use a pick and roll correctly, one must pick an area, not a person. From their they can do three things: backdoor, curl, and bump. (many options)
A team can use a curl when the defender guards tight allowing the person who sets a pick to curl and post up for an easy shot.
It is very important to read the defense because you want to have the easiest shot to take and not make it any harder for yourself. Reading the defense allows you to utilize a move out of the arsenal of moves you know already to create space for more offensive progression.
1.The pick and roll in basketball is an offensive play in which a player sets a screen (pick) for a teammate handling the ball and then slips behind the defender (rolls) to accept a pass.
2.It's very important to read the defense because its crucial to determine how they will react to the play. If they catch on you'll be trapped.

When you use a pick and roll, the most important part of the play is to set a good, hard, wide screen for the ball-handler. It is important that the ball handler uses the screen by coming tight off the screener's hip and then looking either to score or hit the screener who should open up to the defense and roll. When you use a curl, you do it because your defender is following right behind you and you want to cut him off with the screen. Reading the defense is very important. However your defender guards you, it is important to know the different ways to create space on different types of defenders

An offensive player sets a screen for another offensive player who currently has the ball. This is also known as a ball screen. (The Pick)
The offensive player dribbles around the ball screen and looks to score.
The screener, opens up to the ball, and cuts to the basket. (The Roll)
And it's important to read defense to confuse the players up and abrupt their offense.

The correct way to do a pick and roll is to have a person screen an area for their teammate, their teammate use the screen and after used the person setting the screen should open up and roll to the hoop looking for a pass for their teammate. It's important to be able to read the defense as it can help you find the best option. If your teammates man comes to guard, you should be able to read that and give the ball to your teammate for either an easy deuce or a mismatch.

The proper way to use a pick and roll is when a teammate of the ball handler sets a screen(pick) to create space for the ball handler from the defender. Then the person who set the screen moves in the opposite direction of where the ball handler went and will be open for a simple shot. pick and roll call for screen when screen comes fake one way to make the defender think you aren't getting screened then come off screeners hip (get low and leave no space for defender to get through)after you come off the screen the screener rolls to the bucket. For the curl you do the same thing as a pick and roll except the person being screened curls to the basket. For fade same thing except person who screens pops out. It is very important to read the defense so u can chose the most effective way to score out of the 3.

To use a proper pick and roll if you are setting the pick then you should set the pick then roll down towards the basketball and get open. It is very important to read the defense because if you don't read them well or pick up what they are doing then you might get the ball stolen when your going down low for a pass.

In using a pick your legs and hand need to be spread and you want your back to be facing in the direction you want your team mate to go. Your body must remain still and your hands need to be protecting your body. Before you use a pick you must communicate it with your team mate. afterwards you can. It is very important to read the defense because you can find weaknesses and score more points on other team.

A pick and roll is used successfully when the ballhandler draws his defender into the screen leaving the screeners defender with a difficult decision. The roll man opens his body to the ballhandler while moving toward the basket.
It is very important to be able to read the defense so your offense can operate efficiently and score more points.

When executing a pick and roll the screener has to set a strong pick on the ball handlers man with a wide stance and try to cut off any movement of the defender. The screener must the open up and roll to the basket and look for the pass. It's important for the ball handler to read and react to the defense in case he goes under the screen in which case he can shoot or if he tries to "cheat" in which case he can dribble back the other direction.

In order to use the pick and roll a team mate must set a pick or a screen for the ballhandler once the ballhabdler gets free from the person guarding them the person who sets the pick then goes the opposite way as the ballhandler to get an open shot

When you are off the ball and you get a screen and your defender is playing close to you, you should curl off the screen and the screener should then open up to play in the post.

when setting a proper screen you must have your feet set. you set the screen around a area. the person receiving the screen must come of the screener's shoulder and go straight to the basket. the screener also must roll to the basket after being bumped. it is important to read the defense because you can plan accordingly to how you can gain an open shot

The pick and roll used correctly is a very effective move. The correct way is for someone to place them in front of the defeater guarding the ball handler blocking the defender on one side. The ball handler runs past the person setting the pick while the person setting the pick creates as much room as possible. after the ball handler is past the pic the person setting the pick drops back and rolls towards the basket looking for a pass or rebound.
Use a pick and roll correctly, they can use backdoor, curl and bump.
A pick is used to create space for the ball handler to shoot it or pass it. Also it is very important to look for the open man, also read the defense because it gives and opportunity for the easy shot to score.

The pick and roll is an effective way to score. The person who is setting a pick must pick a space, not a person, and should set a firm pick. The person he is setting a pick for should come off the screener's shoulder very tightly so that the defender cannot go around the screen so easily. After the screen has been set it is crucial that the screener rolls towards the basket and is prepared for a pass to come his way. Being able to read the defense is very important because it will help you choose where to go or what move to make depending on how the defense reacts. For example, if the defense is playing soft coverage on you and if you are a good shooter then you take a pull up jump shot.
