Period 2 Team Games

Due Date: Wednesday, February 27th

You will have two weeks to complete this blog and turn it in to me. Below are the ten general skills of physical fitness. The body is a dynamic machine and all of these skills help to make that machine run. It is my contention that you are only as good as your average across the range of these ten skills and to get better you need to raise that average. The best way to do that is to find what you are deficient in and make that better.

For this weeks’ blog I want you to rate yourself 1 - 10 in each of the skill categories. One being the worst ten the best. Once you have rated yourself, choose 3 general skills of fitness and explain 2 ways you can improve on these areas. Be honest in your rankings, and if you need a second opinion ask me.

1. Cardiovascular/respiratory endurance – The ability of body systems to gather, process, and deliver oxygen.

2. Stamina – The ability of body systems to process, deliver, store and utilize energy.

3. Strength – The ability of a muscular unit, or combination of muscular units, to apply force.

4. Flexibility – The ability to maximize the range of motion at a given joint.

5. Power – The ability of a muscular unit, or combination of muscular units to apply maximum force in minimum time.

6. Speed – The ability to minimize the time cycle of a repeated movement.

7. Co-ordination – The ability to combine several distinct movement patterns into a singular distinct movement.

8. Agility – The ability to minimize transition time from one movement pattern to another.

9. Balance The ability to control the placement of the bodies center of gravity in relation to its support base.

10. Accuracy – The ability to control movement in a given direction or at a given intensity

2. Finally, I also learned that a held ball is really called a jump ball.

Flexibility- I can improve my flexibility by stretching everyday and by stretching every part of my body even if I'm not going to use it for that workout.

Strength- It could be improved by lifting weights or doing push-ups regularly and by doing these exercises for longer periods of time or in bigger sets.

Stamina- I can improve my stamina by running a mile daily and then at the end of every other week, time myself to see how much faster I'm getting.

Basically since I play soccer, I am perticularrly fast and have great endurance yet I am weak.
1. To build up strenght, I could do push ups everynight and gradually lift weights (Start with 10 lbs, 15lbs etc.)
2.To build power, especially in my calfs, theights, and abs I would do sit ups everyday and do leg exercizes.
3. Finally to build up balance, I could participate in activites such as yoga.
