Period 8 Advanced Basketball

Due Date: Friday, January 7th

We have started our 5 on 5 unit. We have discussed playing zone vs. playing a man to man defense. Explain how your defensive strategy can help make your team successful during this unit. Also, include what type of defense your team should play against each other team in class based on your teams strengths and weaknesses.

Since defense is he most consistent part of your game in basketball, it is important to have a good team defense. I believe that zone is the best way to become a good defensive team, since that way bad-match ups aren't exploited and help defense quickly arrives. I think our team is best suited for a 3-2 since our guards are quick and can exploit bad ball handlers on the other team, while our big men down low grab rebounds.

Our defensive strategy is to play a 2-3 zone. This will work well because there arent that many good 3 point shooters in the class. So they will miss 3s then well get the rebounds because me, dale, and gabby will be in rebounding position. Plus the zone helps me get lots of blocks and steals when I fly in from the weakside and surprise people.

I think we should play zone cause thats the best way for the teams.because on man to man people get confused on who dey checking.

I think zone is effective only when defense wants to stop the offense from scoring too much to the point of taking a huge lead. The zone we use or (I have personally done) is the 1-3-1. Our post (rebound) seems to be weak but we have a bunch of average shooters. As of result, out height cannot compensate for the rebound and will be in the "middle" of the half court. We only have couple players with a lot of experience so one can be up on the front and the other down of the bottom. However, I may be wrong because I haven't fully understand the zone defense. There may be other better positions for the team as well.

I think if my team plays zone we will be successful. Zone would work for us because their will be no mismatches and it puts less work on us individually on defense..........Muffin aka Bereket Solomon

my team plays zone cause not everyone has great defence so we can work together by comunicating nd everyone can be acountable for their own area of the zone. there for we can play as one nd if we do it well no one will stop us

i feel 2-3 zone is the best one because it forces the other team to take 3 point shots and its harder to make a 3 than a 2. Also that way it would be hard to drive. My team will be playing 2-3 because man is tiring at times and zone is better and easier, also no mismatches -Dee BlackBoy Fox

Playing a zone in the 5v5 unit will help our team succeed. Our team uses 3-2 defense since our guards are quick and can exploit bad ball handlers by trapping on wherever the ball goes. Forcing turnovers in pressure situations will be a big part of our team succeeding. One weakness though would have to be our height, we don't get many rebounds.

2-3 zone because it protects against the drive a force the 3 point shot. Also it makes sure theres no mismatches.

My team's defensive strategy is a 1-3-1 halfcourt trap. This trap works because the kids in our class that we play against panic when they see a trap coming to them. Our team probably leads the class in steals which is the reason why we get so many open layups. With our length in me, dennel, and cameron our arms block many passing lanes. if they get past our traps, we are athletic enough to recover.

My team should play a 2-3 zone so that we can force the other teams to shoot 3's and so that we will be in good rebounding position. A zone also let's us get rid of mismatches.

Defense leads to good offense is a thought that I continuously have heard in my basketball career, so playing a good zone is crucial to our team's success. We tend to play a 1-3-1 zone because that way our best on ball defender can guard their best ball handler and create turnovers and our wing defenders are able to get out on shooters early.

Playing zone in our 5 on 5 unit will help my team win alot of games because it causes us to get out to our shooters fast and close out with a hand up so that the shot can be contested. we run a 1-3-1 zone where im on the top because once the ball gets in the corner we trap the ball handler so it makes it harder for him to see the ball.

My team would play a zone because most of the guys in the class like to drive to the basket and a 2-3 zone would help with that. That way we would have more people to rebound and get the ball.

I perfer playing Zone rather than playing man on man. Your more limited on man on man, Don't get me wrong man on man is still good but i perfer playing zone.
