Due Date: November 10th

During the invasion games unit we discussed the importance of defending the goal. What are some ways you could apply this approach to our basketball unit?

I'm so out of it today, with hiccups since 4:00 (so far about 45 minutes). Water, scareing, nothing has worked. Anyways, I'm not gonna write an extremely long response, like the other blog comments that I've posted before on this blog, but this post should be relatively long. Even the intro is shorter than it would be if I didn't have the hiccups distracting me every 10 seconds. So intro is gonna be over after one more sentence. And that sentence is this sentence that you are currently reading right now.

NOW! ON TO THE QUESTION

Well... Just as in football, soccer, ultimate frisbee, and the other game which I can't really remember at this time, there is an endzone/goal/other thing/basket. So in each game, the point of defense is to prevent the other team from reaching the endzone/scoring a goal. In basketball, the principles are more like the principles involved in soccer. Instead of having the playing object in the endzone, a player is required to get the basket/soccer ball into the goal/hoop. So also like the other invasion games, you need to stay in between the goal/hoop/endzone/other thing and the player, to help prevent them from reaching the goal/hoop/endzone.

And sadly, that's how long my blog is going to be for this week. =P

In order to prevent the other team form scoring a basket, we should either play a man to man defense or a zone defense to prevent them from scoring. Also, is someone on the opposing team is about to score, one of us should help out our teammate in defending the hoop.

I think by staying on your man, moving your feet, and staying between him and the basket are good ways to defend the goal.

you could stay between the person you are guarding and the basket. that way, it will be harder to score and you will be in the way.

Guarding under the basket in basketball could help you if the person shooting the ball misses and you could get the rebound. It could also stop someone from taking a layerup or trying to pass from under the basket if you are under it blocking.

You can defend the area near the basket and block the shots that the other team makes.

Defending the goal is very important in every game including basketball. In basketball when the other team has the pall you are playing defense and they are trying to make a basket. The defensive player must block the shot. There is no goaly in basketball, but you are still aloud to block

Some ways that I could apply by defending the goal in basketball, would be by trying to stop them from shooting the ball into the basket (not hurting them). Also you steal the ball, before they try to make it in.

You could apply some of the techniques we described by playing zone or man. you have to change who guards who depending on their different skill sets in basketball, it may be different then other sports.

you could stay between the ball and the hoop so that you form some sort of barrier between the ball and the hoop thus protecting the goal.-Alex Smolen

since in basketball you can't guard the basket. you could, instead, block/guard the people on the opposing team, or catch the rebound.

You could apply this to our basketball unit by having and developing hand-eye coordination. You must also have to be able to have a good sense of the field and your teammates and your surroundings.

If the opponent has the ball, we can stay between the opponent and the basket, preventing him/her to get the point.
Also, the farther away the ball is from the basket, the better it is for the team, since it means that either our team has a good offense, or the opposing team has a weak defense. Defending the goal(basket) is important to prevent the opposing team from gaining points.

Guard your man, and generally stay between him/her and the basket. Don't let him/her get past you for a layup, and pray he/she misses if they take a shot.

You could have each player mark a player of the other team, leaving no one open for passes and making it difficult for the person who has the ball to get a shot. Usually the defender is placed either between his or her player and the person who has a ball, ready to intercept and gain possession, or between the player and the goal (or the basket) to make shots difficult. The point is to cut off as many options for the person with the ball as possible.

We could use similar tactics to stop the opponents from reaching the basket.

In order to defend the goal, you have to guard your man and try to not let him/her get a hold of the ball. If a player shoots and misses, get the ball by playing a little offensive to prevent the other team from getting the rebound.

Some way of applying the importance of defending the goal in the basketball unit is marking a player. by this you are guarding him/her from trying to get the ball making it harder.

You could stay on your man, and make sure that the ball doesn't get passed to the person your guarding. Also, you could be a cherry picker, and get all the rebounds to not allow the other team a 2nd shot at shooting.

During the invasion games, wneh defendein the goal I always try to put myself between the goal/ basket and the opponent. If I am unable to do so I will try to get the rebound and try to intersept a pass.

In the invasion games unit we defended goals, we could apply this to basketball by putting the effect on the person that you are guarding: trying to intercept their passes to one another and their shots/baskets. This will be effective by keeping yourself as a sort of wall between the player and the basket, so that way you are able to prevent them shooting. In invasion games we defended the goal, in basketball we prevent the opponents from making a basket.

DEFEND vs PREVENT
Which one do you choose??? ;)

In order to prevent the other team from scoring a basket, you should defend the basket with either a man on man method or a zone method. If someone on your team sees an unguarded opposing team player they should block them from scoring by either jumping in front of them and blocking their shot or prevent them from dribbling.

In the other games we played during the unit we used different types of defense techniques like man to man defense, which helped prevent the opposing team from scoring. To basketball we could also use the same technique and stay between the opposing team and the basket.

just like in soccer, players guard another player on the opposing team. By staying between the opponent and the basket, you are defending the hoop by preventing them from having open areas to shoot.

To defend the basket, or "goal", one must stay between the offensive player on the other team and the basket. This makes it so it is harder for the offensive player to shoot the ball or run around the defensive player and shoot. This idea is very similar in soccer, football, etc. The idea is to stay between the opponent and the goal/endzone/basket so the opponent does not score.

In the basketball unit, defending the basket is just like soccer or football. You need to go after the other players to prevent them from scoring by blocking or cutting them their movements to interupt their shots or passes.

prevent the other team of getting closer to the goal, hoop, end zone, etc. stay between the opponent and the goal. MAke sure theyre not open. always stick to your man. Always be on a look out for open people and alwasy put ur head in the game -min

to defend the goal in basketball you need to move off the ball, everybody needs to be guarding someone. It's also important that the defender stays between the man they're guarding and the basket instead of in front if the person their guarding, trying to intercept a pass. If you stay between them and the basket, when they receive a pass they are pressured by the defender and it makes it hard for them to attack

you could stand between the player and the basket. So if they try to shot you can block them.

some of the ways that we could defend the goal is to have a person guarding the other like a 1 on 1 in everyone also another way is stealing the ball from the other team and scoring on your own team

Alright. Before I begin this blog, Ms. Dyer, I want to apologize for sending this in kinda late.

During the basketball unit, the importance of defending the basket comes up very often. The whole point of the game is to stop the opponent from score while getting in baskets yourself. So if the defense is good, then your score will be high compared to your opponents.
There are many ways to defending the basket. For example, guarding the shooter closely helps to decrease their accuracy. Also, pressuring is a good technique to lower the shooting accuracy of your opponent.
Another important point is to always stay between the shooter and the basket. This way you provide a wall and a obstruction to their path. Thus perventing, or at least trouble them when they try to score.

Lastly, another good technique is the man on man technique. This technique puts the previously mentioned techniques together to achieve a better result. This is the most useful technique but the hardest to master. Since the opponent might be moving agily away and quickly shifting directions. But if this technique is used well, then you lower your opponent's chances of scoring by a large amount.

Again, at the end of my blog. I apologize for my lateness and hope that you won't take off for my 4 hr lateness from the due date thing. :)
Please?

P.S. I think my blog's longer than Chris's this time!! WOOOT!

A way to prevent the other team from scoring is tight defense. Like my coach says tight defense is the way to turn the ball over. It prevents more shots and its easier to steal the ball.

You could apply defending a goal to basketball by trying to block shots, stealing the ball before the person has a chance to shoot, and staying between the person you are guarding and the basket.

By getting in between your oppenent and the basket you are defending the the goal, and keeping your oppenent from scoring. Also from stealing the ball and intersepting passes.
