Period 2 -Team Games

Due Date: Wednesday, March 23rd

You will have two weeks to complete this blog and turn it in to me. Below are the ten general skills of physical fitness. The body is a dynamic machine and all of these skills help to make that machine run. It is my contention that you are only as good as your average across the range of these ten skills and to get better you need to raise that average. The best way to do that is to find what you are deficient in and make that better.

For this weeks’ blog I want you to rate yourself 1 - 10 in each of the skill categories. One being the worst ten the best. Once you have rated yourself, choose 3 general skills of fitness and explain 2 ways you can improve on these areas. Be honest in your rankings, and if you need a second opinion ask me.  Please don't forget to put your name on the Blog.

1. Cardiovascular/respiratory endurance – The ability of body systems to gather, process, and deliver oxygen.

2. Stamina – The ability of body systems to process, deliver, store and utilize energy.

3. Strength – The ability of a muscular unit, or combination of muscular units, to apply force.

4. Flexibility – The ability to maximize the range of motion at a given joint.

5. Power – The ability of a muscular unit, or combination of muscular units to apply maximum force in minimum time.

6. Speed – The ability to minimize the time cycle of a repeated movement.

7. Co-ordination – The ability to combine several distinct movement patterns into a singular distinct movement.

8. Agility – The ability to minimize transition time from one movement pattern to another.

9. Balance The ability to control the placement of the bodies center of gravity in relation to its support base.

10. Accuracy – The ability to control movement in a given direction or at a given intensity

I feel i should improve my strength By lifting weights and exercising my arm area
I feel i should improve my flexibility by stretching and probably doing yoga
I feel i should improve my Cardio Vascular endurance system by running a little bit more and doing exercises that are good for cardio

6. Speed: 10

Cardio - I can improve on cardio endurance in general from running, jogging, swimming and participating in more fast paced sport activities.

Strength - I can improve the maximum force I can apply by doing core body workouts such as pushups and pullups or focusing on on area in particular by weightlifting.

Accuracy - I can increase my motor control and accuracy through repetition of one activity. By training muscle memory, accuracy can be much more consistent. Slowing down and observing how you manipulate your body will also help to improve accuracy.

Stamina, Speed, Strength.
I would improve in these areas of fitness by excising. I would jog and run every day after school to improve in these areas. By doing this, it will improve my stamina and speed considerably while also increasing my strength. I would also lift weights to improve my stamina and strength.

In order to improve any aspects of my athleticism I need to begin with my flexibility. Flexibility helps with building muscle and improving speed.
