Period 2- Basketball

Due Date: Wednesday, September 17th

We are currently in our 1 on 1 unit.  We have discussed triple threat and several ways to create space or separation from your opponent in class.  Please watch the video below of Kevin Durant and LeBron James.

1.  Please name 2 ways that Kevin Durant or LeBron James created space or was able to get to the basket or open to get their shot off .  Be specific when you name a move that he used.

2.  Explain how his ability to read the defense allowed him to be so successful in this game  (use the same player you talked about in question #1).

3.   Finally, please tell me which player you think is more of an offensive threat and why.

Kevin Durant uses the crossover move and behind the back move to get open into space. Durant's ability to read the defense allowed him to keep possession of the ball and attack the basket.Durant is more of an offensive threat because he is quick, has lots of skill and knows where his teammates are on the court at all times.

Kevin Durant used the cross-over to get open for a mid-range jump shot which he made. He also used the spin move to get into the lane and then he passed to Serge Ibaka for the dunk. On that play he read the defense by seeing Ibaka's defender coming towards him so then he passed for the easy dunk. He drove a lot during the game because he knows the Heat don't have a good rim-protector. Kevin Durant is more of an offensive threat than Lebron James. Kevin Durant has a better jump-shot, which is essential when playing on the wing. Also, he has better finishing moves, as Lebron tends to rely more on his big body in the paint.

1. Kevin Durant used a couple of spin moves, step backs, and crossovers to create space between him and defenders.

2. Kevin Durant was aware of his opponent's guarding ability, allowing him to know what moves would work in specific situations against certain defenders.

3. I think that LeBron James is an overall greater offensive threat however, because of his size and strength (although KD is equally as strong). Due to his size and strength he is not a predictable and KD. 85% of the time, Kd is going to pull up, step back, or take a simple jump shot. LeBron does the same, and then some. LeBron drives to the basket often enough for you to not actually be able to predict what he is going to do on each possession. Thus leaving him as the greater offensive threat.

1. Two moves that Lebron uses to create space to get to the basket are the Power Dip and the Jab dribble step back.

2. lebron has been in the NBA for awhile so he's able to read how the defender will play up on him. For example if the defender gives him too much space he'll shoot it. If the defender plays up tight, then he'll use his body/speed to create room to get to the basket.

3. I believe that Lebron is more of a threat because, he's always able to find a way to the basket no matter who's on him. He has the body and speed to pass by any defender but has also got a great shooting arm to drain shots.

Ray Lu:
LeBron James: (1) crossover, drive with windmill, and one. (2) drive, jump stop stepped inside and turn around fade away. LeBron knows the right time to cut in with a nice pass from his teammates, and he also knows if he does a move what defenders' future move will be then just use that to shoot or dive. I think LeBron's better because he got a stronger body with all those nice skills.
(By the way I'm not a LeBron fan)

1. 3-pointer / Jump shot
2. Take a spin
3. LeBron, because he makes one of the opponents fall and loses his shoe.

Kevin Durant created space through spin moves and crossovers.
Since Kevin Durant could read the defense he would know which move to use on them.
I think Kevin Durant is more of an offensive threat due to his length.

1.)LeBron James did a cross-over drive to basket then did a lay-up.
Also he did a jab step cross-over jump shot.
2.)His ability to read the defense helped LeBron be successful so then he knew what move to do on the defense player.
3.) i think that LeBron did better because Durant mostly shot 3's when LeBron dribble to the basket to make a lay-up

Ms.Dyer Period 2

Ms.Dyer’s P.E. Blog Assignment #2

1. Lebron James uses the crossover and pull up jump shot to create space to shoot. Lebron James also uses the fadeaway technique to create space for his shot.

2. His ability to read defense helped him because he can know which way or what the defender will do or react to his plays and all he has to do is to fake the opponent and make space and put down the shot.

3. I think that both players are very good at offense but Kevin Durant is a excellent shooter. In the clip, you can see that Kevin Durant can just shoot a long three and still makes it connect to the basket. He can shoot efficiently and go inside the paint and score and most of the time he’s unstoppable. He also had a 41 game streak of 25 points or more and a 12 game streak of 30 points or more. Which is really impressive.

1.)lebron either stuttered and drove in and took a layup or a fade away.then he also did a move that we learned exactly. where we jab stepped swung it over and drove.

2.)he read the defense to see open lanes where he can go or call for some help. also he read it to take the shot or lay it off to someone else. this is because many times someone drives others converge on the person driving in.

3.)i think they both are but personally kd is more of one to me since he shows more skill and excitement lebron either has very similar moves or just pulls up. because KD many times did a crossover pull up jumper but several times he also crossed over drove in them sometimes spun and either passed it or shot it. he had a variety.

1. LeBron James made many fadeaway shots, which created space between him and the defender and allowed him to take an open shot. He also powered through the defenders with the ball to get to the basket to make a shot.

2. In this game LeBron was able to read the defense and get them to play up on him so that he could drive in to the basket easier. When it was needed, he also fell back and then drove in to create space between him and the defender. When there were a lot of defenders surrounding him, LeBron shot and made three pointers.

3. I think Kevin Durant was more of an offensive threat because he made more shots than LeBron by being aggressive. He is able to make shots from all over the court, not just by driving in the ball like LeBron did.

1. Kevin durant liked to use spin moves and crossovers to score points and make space.
2. Kevin often would take a step back to get away from the defense and make a shot.
3. I think Kevin Durant is more of a threat, because he seems to make more 3-pointers when LeBron likes to run and shoot up in the paint.

1. Kevin Durant used a simple crossover to create space for his jumpshot. He also used a spin move to get past LeBron for a layup.
2.When you are able to read the defense well you already have a general idea of how they are going to react. When Kevin Durant was in a isolation situation, the defender was on edge and Kevin Durant knew that, so he froze his defender and got a layup or an open jumpshot.
3.I think Kevin Durant is a bigger offensive threat because of his length, and he is a much better shooter

Kevin Durant created space by faking in one direction then spin moving around and charges towards the basket in the other direction while the defense is off balance. He also charges in hard then pulls away and jumps to a different spot and shoot really quick to create space. Durant's ability to read the defense allowed to him to keep possession of the ball and blow past the defense because he know what he needs to do to throw them off. I think Durant is more of a threat because he is more of a team player. He sometimes incorporates his teammates into his plays which makes them a lot more deadly.

Kevin Durant uses a spin move an crossover to create/get to an open space. Durant read the defense in a way that allowed him to score by using ball handling skills. I think Durant is more of a threat because his ball handling skills and his shooting allow him to create space and score a lot of baskets.

1. Durant used spin moves and crossovers to get passed his defender for open shots.

2. KD has great court vision and awareness so he knows when the paint would be cleared out for him to get to the net and when his teamates would be open.

3. LeBron is a better offensive player because he is near unstoppable when he drives in the paint because of his big body. Durant has more of a slim build so he has to settle for more jumpshots which are not sure things like layups and make his game one-dimensional.

Durant is more of a offensive threat than Lebron James. He was able to read the defense easily, and, as shown in the video, responded with the appropriate skills (such as the step back move or the spin move). He was also able to co-ordinate his efforts with his team in order to efficiently make shots.

2. Durant's ability to read the defense allowed him to be so successful in this game by knowing how the other player would react.
3. I think Kevin Durant an offense threat, since he is capable of creating space and being fast.

Lebron uses his body strength to drive to the basket whether he draws the foul or gets an easy layup, He also uses the jab step to create space between him and the defender.

Julian Levin:

1. Kevin Durant used the spin move, the crossover, and jab-drives, among other moves, to get to the basket for a layup, or to get open for a jump shot.
2. Durant was able to read the Heat's defense, and used what he saw to get to the open spaces on th court, or to make another defender collapse onto him, and pass the ball to a teammate for the easy score.
3. I think Kevin Durant is more of an offensive threat. He can score a variety of ways, as he has a deadly shot, but can also drive by defenders and get to the rim, or pass to his open teammate.

1.Lebron James used jab steps, spin moves, and crossovers to create space between himself and the defender.
2. Lebron James was aware of the kind of defense that was being played, and his opponents physical and mental ability to guard him. This allowed him to size up his likelihood of socring.

3. I think LeBron is more of an offensive threat because of his size, athletic ability, and overall athleticism. Although KD can shoot better, Lebron is more physical and has better court vision. LeBron is faster, and has greater leaping ability.

Lebron used the crossover to lose his defender and go for the lay up
he also did a fade away spin kind of shot

he was able to read the defense and succefully use a crossover move

LeBron because he has a strong body and is able to drive hard

1.Kevin Durant used both the spin move and crossovers to get open for a jump shot.
2.By reading the defense, Kevin Durant was able to make good decisions on when to just take a shot, drive in, or pass. This allowed him and his team to get more points.
3.In my opinion Kevin Durant is more of an offensive threat because his accuracy for shooting is quite high which can be very painful for the people on defense

1.)KD uses the spin move to lose LeBron multiple times along with his crossover to fade away move to move LeBron back and make a comfortable amount of space.

2.) All around KD is a quicker dribbler and moves quicker in general he also has the ability to shoot very well everywhere on the court, though does lack alot of the strength that LeBron has that lets him make contact layups.

3.)Though KD has great shooting ability LeBron has better court vision, his assist numbers are much higher than KD's, he is also stronger , grabs many more rebounds and most of all can posterize better!

1) KD uses spin moves, step backs, and crossovers to create space.

2) KD has an awareness as to how his opponent will guard him and how well of a defender his opponent is. This allows him to choose what moves to utilize in order to beat the defender based on their particular skill set.

3) Due to his size and strength, King James is a greater offensive threat. You don't know if King James will drive in or shoot from inside or outside the arc. His athleticism allows him to be versatile and unpredictable. KD on the other hand is quite predictable. Though he can drive in for the layup or jam, 80% of the time he will stay near the perimeter and pull up for a jump shot or take the 3. King James can do this as well but he mixes driving in with jump shots, making it statistically harder for defenders to predict what he is going to do. King James is a greater offensive threat than KD.
