1. What is the job of the 3 and 4 in the 1-3-1 zone?

2. What is the 5's job in the 1-3-1 zone?

3. Do you think your 5 on 5 team could successfully run this zone defense? Why or why not?

4.  If you had to run this defense please let me know which position you would put each of your teammates in and why?

1.the 3 and 4 spots are suppose to guard the high wings and baseline
2. the 5 spotis suppose to guard the other teams post player
3. My team could run this because we have athletic players that are quick.

If I had to run this defense I would put Jake Down low in the 2 spot because he is tall. I would put Me and Nate in the 3 and 4 spots. And Alec in the 5 spot.

1. What is the job of the 3 and 4 in the 1-3-1 zone?

To step out and guard on the wings and step down to cover the block when the ball is on the opposite side.

2. What is the 5's job in the 1-3-1 zone?

The 5’s job in the 1-3-1 zone is to guard the post players near the paint and stay mostly positioned at the top of the key.

3. Do you think your 5 on 5 team could successfully run this zone defense? Why or why not?

I don’t think my team could run this defense because it is too complex to understand right away. It takes a lot of practice for each player to understand what they need to do in every scenario because if just one person doesn’t do their job then the defense can collapse and the offense will most likely score.

4. If you had to run this defense please let me know which position you would put each of your teammates in and why?

If my team ran this zone defense, I would put someone who is quick in the one and/or 2 position because both positions require a lot of running back and forth and they have to cover a lot of ground. They also have to have a lot of stamina. For the 3 and 4 position I would put someone who is average at running and on the taller side because they need to be able to guard posts that may be playing down on the blocks. I would put my tallest player in the 5 position because that’s where they will be guarding the posts on the other team.

1) The job of the 3 and 4 is to cover their half of the court.
2) The job of the 5 is to protect the lane.
3) yes because I think that we can do the 1-3-1 good.
4) Olivia Mangum as 1, me as 3, matt as 4, Yazmin as 5 and Gracie Gesiskie as the 2.

1. 3 & 4 go back and forth on the sides to prevent any offense from cutting to the basket.

2. 5 matches up with their post player and runs in an arch around the paint.

3. 5 on 5 could run this defense well because they have plenty of room to move around.

4. I would put Kenny and Kelsey in 5 and 2 because they are good at catching rebounds. Yasmin and Gracie would stay at 1 so we can pass to her quickly when we get a rebound. Olivia and I would take 3 and 4 because we are good at running.

1. The job of the 3 and 4 in the 1-3-1 zone is to cover their half they are on if and when the guard attacks the gap (run up and down the floor).

2. The 5’s job in the 1-3-1 zone is to help all of the players stay in order. Supposed to be the one who stops the guard from taking an easy lay-up. They are to maintain the zone defense and prevent the baskets.

3. Yes, I think our team can execute the 1-3-1 zone defense successfully, because many of the players are skilled athletes and have the fundamental skills to do this defense so that we stop shots/get breakaways.

4. I would put Chris as the 1 because he is good at getting a steal. I would place Alex as the 5 because he can get steals, but block lay-ups too. As the 2, I would put Ethan because he is the biggest player on the team and can run the base line. I would put Taylor and I as the 3 and 4 to put pressure on the guards that want to make the 3 pointers.

1. The 3 and 4 are have to keep track of the outside and have to keep away the outside shot.
2. The 5 is in charge of the post player.
3. I don’t think our team would successfully run this defense because we would all just get confused and mixed up on where to go.
4. If we had to run the zone, one of the boys would be at 2 because he's quick and a great shooter. Another boy would be at 1 because he would make a decent point guard. The other girl in my group would be at 3 because she can get to the ball quickly. Another boy would be at 4 because he can keep the ball away from the guards. And lastly the final boy would be at 5 because he is probably the best player. (I don't know their names)

1) The three and four run constantly up and down the baseline. They have to slide toward the block when the ball is at the opposite side.
2) The five will have to defend the closest post player.
3) My team can successfully run this zone defense because all of my teammates had remembered our own positions already.
4) My team would place the best three players at 2, 3, and 4 because those positions are the most important parts in this defense zone.

1. The 3 and the 4 must cover their sides of the court, constantly running back and forth.
2. The 5 matches up with their post player, listen to your instruction.
3.I do think our team could successfully run this zone defense because we are an athletic team and can move well.
4. I would put Rey at the 1, Zach and I at the 3 and 4, Kristen at the 2, and Courtney at the 5 spot. Courtney isn't very fast, but she tall and can use her size to her advantage.

1. To cover their half of the court and to not let the ball get past.
2.To help the post player
3. Yes because we have quick people
4. One of the post positions because its where the ball will most likely go.

1. The jobs of 3 and 4 are similar. both 3 and 4 in the 1-3-1 zone have to cover the half of the floor, running back and forth constantly. If the ball is on the opposite side of the court they should slide toward the block.

2. 5's job in the 1-3-1 zone is to guard the offensives team post-player.

3. Yes, I think my team can run the zone defense successfully because we know our separate responsibilities in the zone defense and our team is well-rounded athletically.

4. (1) Jake- Jake would play 1 because he has good ball handles and speed.
(2) Zack- Zack would play 2 because he has speed, ball handles, and can shoot the ball well.
(3) Marlin- Marlin would play 3 because she can cover a majority of space.
(4) Courtney- Courtney would play 4 because she's a good defender as well as forcing turnovers.
(5)- I Would play five because i'm tall and I do pretty good at getting rebounds.

1.Cover the wings when the ball swings to the wings.
2. To cover the corners when the ball swings there and otherwise hold the paint.
3. Yes, because we have enough athletes to cover the corners.
4. Im put myself in 5 because im the tallest and have good lateral movement. Chris would play 1 because hes quick. Alex and taylor would play 2 and 4 because they can trap well. Jared would play 3 because jared is a defensive stopper

1. Player 3 and player 4 protect the sides of the court so that the offense can't make outside plays.

2.Player 5 is basically guarding the post player and definding the majority of the inside shots.

3. I believe my team cannot successfully accomplish 1-3-1 zone because our team does not have enough "great atheletes" who have stamina or the will to actually play.

4. I would put myself at one because i can quickly stop the offense. Zack at two because he has height and is very atletic to stop incoming offensive players. Jake would have either of the sides because he has a lot of stamina and is good for fast breaks. Cortney and Nick would play the other side because they are pretty fast. Kristen and Marlana? would be at five because they dont like to run back and forth a lot and are good at following people in a "confined space".

2. The 5 must follow the post player and defend him/her as told.

3. Yea we could because we're all experienced basketball players.

4. I could play any position because usually I play a post position, but I am fast, quick and and good defender.
