We are currently in our 5 on 5 unit and one of objectives we have been working on in class is determining how to properly execute a zone defense. The video below explains how to properly execute a 1-3-1 Zone defense. Please watch the video below and answer the following questions.

1. What is the job of the 3 and 4 in the 1-3-1 zone?

2. What is the 5's job in the 1-3-1 zone?

3. Do you think your 5 on 5 team could successfully run this zone defense? Why or why not?

4. If you had to run this defense please let me know which position you would put each of your teammates in and why?

1. The 3 and the 4 run up and down the sidelines to prevent the creation of passing lanes.

2. The 5 must follow the post player and defend him/her as told. (fronting the high side, low side, or not fronting at all)

3. Yea we could because we're all experienced basketball players.

4. I could play any position because usually I play a post position, but I am fast, quick and and good defender.

***I can't see the previous blog so I don't know how to redo it***

Ayushna Kavathekar, Period 4
1. The job of the 3 and 4 in the 1-3-1 zone is to cover the half of the floor they are on if and when the guard attacks the gap. They are supposed to run back and forth doing their job. If the ball is on one half of the floor and suppose the 3 defends that guard, then the 4 has to go to the block.
2. The 5’s job is to basically help all of the players in an orderly manner. It is also supposed to be the one that stops the guard from taking an easy lay-up. Though this player does the least running, they are critical to maintain the zone defense and prevent the baskets.
3. Yes, I think our team can successfully execute this zone defense, because many of the players are skilled athletes and have the fundamental skills to do this defense so that we stop shots or get breakaways. Also, this can help us organize ourselves on defense.
4. I would put George as the 1 because he is good at getting a steal. I would place Nicky as the 5 so he also can get steals, but block lay-ups as I have seen him do so before. As the 2, I would put Clement because he is the biggest player on the team and can run the base line. Lastly, I would place David and I as the 3 and 4 to put pressure on the guards that want to make the 3 pointers.

1)They both cover their half of the court and constantly run back and forth. Also, when the ball is on the opposite side of the court they slide toward the block.
2)The 5 matches up with the offensive post player
3)I think my team could run this defense successfully because it is fairly simple. Also, our players are very athletic and will be able to move constantly based on where the ball goes. We are also good at communicating and being in the right place at the right time.
4)If my team were to run this defense, Jason would be the 1 because he is fast, but small. Edward would be the 2 because he is athletic and kind of big, so he would be able to defend the players on the other team playing down low. Ben and I would be the 3 and the 4 because we are fast and good at forcing the offensive player one way. Zack would be the 5 because he is tall and would play good defense against a big post player.

1. The 3 and 4 are responsible for the outside and have to keep away the outside shot.
2. The 5 is in charge of the post player.
3. I don’t think our team would successfully run this defense because if the other team switches around, the new match ups would make the zone ineffective.
4. If I had to run the zone, Justin would be at 2 because he is fast and a good shooting guard. Grant would be at 1 because he is a good point guard. Zack would be at 3 because he is small but really fast. Michael would be at 4 because he plays well down low. Robbie would be at 5 because he is the tallest and the best post player

2. The job of the 5 is to cover the nearest post player whether it's fronting, quarter-fronting, shading etc. based on direction of the coach.

1.The job of the 3 and 4 is to cover both the wing man and the top of the key man.
2.Covering the high, low, or none part of the paint.
3.I do think we could run this zone, because we have athletes that can constantly cover the areas where the offense are.
4.I would put me and Nicky at the wings, because we can run and cover both parts well. I would put clement in the middle, becuase he can guard the post well and he is a good down low defender. I would put George or Surban at the bottom of the paint, because they can close out the offense very well.
