Period 6 General PE

Due Date: Monday, December 15th

Badminton Rules and Regulations
A badminton match is played to the best of three games.

Rock-Paper-Scissors determines first serve or choice of side.

The object of a badminton game is to hit the badminton shuttlecock over the badminton net and onto the ground within bounds on your opponent's side of the court.

A rally can also be lost by hitting the shuttle into the badminton net, out of bounds, before it crosses the net to your side, or if it strikes your clothing or body rather than your badminton racket.

Badminton Scoring Formats

In class we will utilize rally play; 21 points are needed to win a badminton game.

In rally play, a point can be awarded to either team, and in most cases, a point is awarded along with resumption of service, except when a rally point is lost by the first member of a serving doubles team.

At the conclusion of each badminton game, players or teams must switch sides.

If a third game is necessary during a match, sides are switched during that game when a player/team has reached eight points in doubles or men's singles, six points in women's singles, or 11 points in rally play.

Badminton Serving Rules

As in tennis, badminton service is always done diagonally, e.g. from the right service court to the opponent's left service court.

The first serve is always taken from the right court, and subsequent serves are taken from alternating sides.
Line shots in badminton service or rallies are considered in, though court bounds are different for singles and doubles play.

The back line is the same for both, but singles badminton is played with the narrower of the two sidelines.

For your blog for this week. Tell me two things you learned about badminton that you did not know before reading this blog.

I have learned that courts differ from singles matches to doubles matches. But that's kinda weird. The courts shouldn't be different. You're still playing on the same kind of court. just the playing area should be different. Just like tennis, where there is an extra section on either side of the court where you can play the ball during doubles match, but not during a singles match, i guess the same type of rules apply for badmitton matches. I was just kinda annoyed at the wording of the description of the rules of badmitton. If it said something like "there are different 'out' and 'in' sections for singles and doubles matches", I would probably be perfectly fine with it. So I don't really have anything against the summary, but just the wording of the summary, which in turn could suggest that the summary is inaccurate, which in turn could mean that I dissagree with the summary, which in turn could also mean that I am offended by the blog. So i guess it could really go both ways in this suggestion. THIS IS SPARTA. Yes. This is sparta. The court is sparta. This school is sparta. This blog is sparta. Ok, maybe not, but the summary is definitely NOT sparta. It maybe could be greece, but not sparta. This is sparta. The court is sparta. This school is sparta. This blog is sparta. For the year. although I'll probably have to continue blogging about SPARTA and stuff 2nd semester, it's not exactly this year, so i'm fine. Happy new year in about 1 month. Ok. the end. No more blog. I'm DONe. Until next year. yeah. Ok. sparta. SpaRta. SPArTA. SSSPPPAAARRRTTTTAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!11111111111111~~~~~~~~~ =3

I didn't know that Rock-Paper-Scissors determines who serves first. I also didn't know that rally scoring is used.

I did not know how to decide which team serves first and how the sides were chosen, but now I know that it's decided by a game of Rock-Paper-Scissors.
I also did not know that if a third game is needed to settle a tie, the teams switch sides at 11 points in rally play.

two things that i learned are that in badminton, is that u hit the ball diagonally from your side when u serve. also, if the shuttle hits your clothes, instead of the racket then its out.

i didn't know alot of things about badminton, but i learned that rock-paper-scissor determines, who gets first serve, and that the game is played to 21. I also didn't know the birdie was called a "shuttlecock"

before reading this blog i did not know that badmiton was played to the best two out of three games ik had always assumed that it was one game only or a bunch like tennis.

also i did not know that to find out who serves first you played rock paper scissores. In middle school we did it by spinning the reacket and called weather or not the emblem on the bottom would be up or down.

I learned that to decide who serves first you do rock-paper-siccors. I thought that serve was determined by throwing the birdie up and whichever side the birdie points at serves. I also didn't know that you play to three games. I only thought that you played till you were bored. This goes to show that I learn something everyday.

I did not know that they used rally scoring for badmiton and that they do rock paper scissor shoe to determine who serves first.

Anonymous said...

Two things that I did not know was:
1)you had to change sides with every point gained
2)the same person serves until he/she fails in obtaining a point.

Anonymous said...

I learned that they determined who serves first by rock-paper-scissors.I also learned that the first serve is always taken from the right court and must go diagonally.

Anonymous said...

I did not know that subsequent serves are taken from different sides. I also did not know that rock, paper, scissors determines first serve of choice of side.

One thing that I did not know before reading the blog is that the first serve in a game is always taken from the right court. Another is that a badminton match is played to the best of three games.

i never knew that rock-paper-scissors determines who gets to serve first. Also, i did not know that you have to serve diagonally like in tennis

The 2 things I learned about badminton before reading this blog was that you start a game with rock-paper-scissors to begin with the game, also the other thing was that and that i didn't know that the birdie was also called a shuttle cock.

I learned that if the shuttlecock touches your clothing, it is counted as a point for the other side. I've never heard of that rule. :)

Well trying to be Chris in ranting wont work, so I'll just finish answering the rest of the question.

I also learned that in a third game, sides are switched during that game when a player/team has reached eight points in doubles or men's singles, six points in women's singles, or 11 points in rally play.

this week i learned that in batminton the score goes up to 21 and that a birdie is called a shuttlecock. Well i guess u learn things everyday

i learned that to decide who serves first, you use rock, paper scissors. Thats kind of stange, but i didnt invent the game so whatever. i also learned that it was rally scoring win by two, but play till 29. it can be kinda screwed up because if you are on a hot streak, and you tie, it should go on until someone oses the will to win, or just is tired, but yet again, i didnt make up this game/sport so ill just have to suck it up.

The things I learned from playing badminton that I did not know before where that Rock-Paper-Scissors determines first serve or choice of side and that you would loose the point of the birdie hit your clothes instead of the racket.

I learned how the game of badmitton is actually played like how to each time you serve again you switch sides and that badmitton is similar to volleyball and tennis. Also, that you play to 21 and have to win by 2 points.-WiLL Casas

i didnt know about the rock paper scissor shoo thing to start wit it

I didnt know that before a game you had to do Rock-Paper-Scissors to see who goes first and also i didnt know that it was rally scoring because in middle school they taught where it had to be your serve for a point

Anonymous said...

I learned that players decide who serves first by rock-paper-scissors, cause i always thought you spun the end of your racket or tossed up the birdie, which is how we decided in middle school. I knew badmitten used rally scoring, but I didn't exactly know how rally scoring worked, because when we played in middle school their explanation was not very good, and after volleyball and badmitten I understand it.

I did not know that the first serve always started in the right service box, and that in a third game, singles when you switch side when you reach 8 points, 6 for women and 11 in rally play.

i did not know that rock paper scissors was used to decide who served first. Also I didnt know that when you serve, it has to be diagonally.

the 2 things i learned from batmington was that, the first people who serve are people who win a rock-paper-siccor game. also i learned that baddminton service is always done diagonally.
