Period 7- Team Games

Due Date: Wednesday, March 23rd

You will have two weeks to complete this blog and turn it in to me. Below are the ten general skills of physical fitness. The body is a dynamic machine and all of these skills help to make that machine run. It is my contention that you are only as good as your average across the range of these ten skills and to get better you need to raise that average. The best way to do that is to find what you are deficient in and make that better.

For this weeks’ blog I want you to rate yourself 1 - 10 in each of the skill categories. One being the worst ten the best. Once you have rated yourself, choose 3 general skills of fitness and explain 2 ways you can improve on these areas. Be honest in your rankings, and if you need a second opinion ask me.  Please don't forget to put your name on the Blog.

1. Cardiovascular/respiratory endurance – The ability of body systems to gather, process, and deliver oxygen.

2. Stamina – The ability of body systems to process, deliver, store and utilize energy.

3. Strength – The ability of a muscular unit, or combination of muscular units, to apply force.

4. Flexibility – The ability to maximize the range of motion at a given joint.

5. Power – The ability of a muscular unit, or combination of muscular units to apply maximum force in minimum time.

6. Speed – The ability to minimize the time cycle of a repeated movement.

7. Co-ordination – The ability to combine several distinct movement patterns into a singular distinct movement.

8. Agility – The ability to minimize transition time from one movement pattern to another.

9. Balance The ability to control the placement of the bodies center of gravity in relation to its support base.

10. Accuracy – The ability to control movement in a given direction or at a given intensity

To improve my agility I can practice doing hurdle drills or I can train my mind by reading more. As well, I can do more practicing in movement patterns (use weights or ladder drills).
To improve my endurance I can run a certain distance and next time I would go farther more each time. Also, I can increase my endurance by challenging myself to run up steeper hills.
To improve my co-ordination I can start doing opposite arm circle or other basic co-ordination exercises. Also, I can do simple game of catch to improve hand eye coordination.

Stamina- To improve my stamina i can start going on runs every day and start cutting back on unhealthy foods to maintain my progress.

Respiratory endurance- I can start controlling my breathing when active more often and work on breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth when taking a break from my workout to recover more oxygen and prevent cramps.

Strength- To improve my strength i can continue to workout and build up muscle but more importantly get a higher intake of protein.

1. Cardiovascular/respiratory endurance – 1
i should probably run more to increase overall endurance and eat protein i think

2. Stamina – 2
Same as above

3. Strength – 3
Upper body mostly: more push ups; maybe weights

4. Flexibility – 7

5. Power – 2

6. Speed – 6

7. Co-ordination – 8

8. Agility – 8

9. Balance - 7

10. Accuracy – 5
mostly depends on the sport or purpose: for basketball i need to practice more free throws; repetition of a skill is the best way to improve accuracy in general
