In our 3 on 3 unit we have discussed several ways to create space on offense to get open. Please explain how to correctly use a pick and roll, a curl, or a fade to create space from the defender. How important do you think it is to be able to read the defense? Why?

Pick and roll is an effective way to create space near the basket for the offense. A player on the attacking side sets a pick on the defender guarding the ball handler and makes a body contact. He then rolls towards the basket leaving the defenders behind and the ball handler passes the ball for him to score. It is very important to be able to read the defense, because when the offense finds some flaw or pattern in the defense's play, they can use it to their own benefit. (Jay Choi)

one person sets a screen for a teammate holding the ball and then runs past the defender to get to the basket while the ball handler passes him the ball. It is important to be able to read the defense because you will know when to use a fade or a curl.

During offense using the pick and roll, fade and curl you are setting an off ball screen constantly moving. For a fade you pop out off a screen to the top of the key when in a curl and pick and roll you are moving towards the basket. On defense it is key to be aware to look and call out for screens so you can keep your opponent in front of you.

A pick and roll is an effective way to create space from the defender. One player sets a pick, and then rolls off the defender towards the basket. It is important to read the defense because if you have a good idea on what formation their playing- (man, zone) you can then decide how you want to play your offense, to take advantage of the defense.

All of theses are very imporant in having success. The pick and roll is probably the most effective thought. In the pick and roll you set a hard pick for your teamate after he comes the pick you turn your shoulder and roll to the basket hopefully resulting in a east lay up

the correct way to use a pick and roll is very simple. The person with the ball is met by his teammate who stands in a strong position that blocks the defender from guarding his man. after the ball handler dribbles by the man setting the pick he will be followed by the pick mans defender, when that happens they drop their pivit foot and roll towards the basket and is fed for layup. a fade and curl are designed to create space from your defender by putting them on your backside or seperating with a quick jab to pop for the fade. It is very important to read the defense because then you can be aware of the easiest way to get open for a shot and create better opportunites for your team to score.

to do a pick and roll somebody sets a screen and the other person comes off the outside shoulder and then once you come off the screen the person who set it reverse pivits and rolls to the basket.
Its important because it gives you options on offense and opens up different ways to score

To do a pick and role one player without the ball goes and sets a pick on the ball handlers defender. The person with the ball goes of the outside shoulder of the man who sets the pick and then the man who set the pick reverse pivots and rolls to the basket. It is important to read defenses because it allows you to decide what type of cuts and plays to run offensively.

The pick and roll creates a gap near the basket for the offense. A player on the attacking side sets a pick on the defender guarding the ball handler. Then he "rolls" towards the basket leaving the defenders behind and the ball handler passes the ball to him. It is very important to read the defense. To correctly use of the pick and roll the player at the top of the key passes the ball either to his right or left and then goes to set the screen, the teammate then brushes shoulders with him/her and takes the lane to the paint where he will be passed the ball for the easy lay-up.It is very important to be able to read the defense because otherwise you won't score or be able to develop a passing game, which can cost you the game.

Pick and roll is a great way to create space toward the basket. to use a pick you go on the outside sholder of the person picking u and then you roll towards the basket or fade to the outside. it is important to read the defense in order to see how they will react to the pick and roll and if they try and cheat you have two good options to score.
