In our 3 on 3 unit we have discussed several ways to create space on offense to get open. Please explain how to correctly use a pick and roll, a curl, or a fade to create space from the defender. How important do you think it is to be able to read the defense? Why?

the way to correctly do a pick n roll is to set the pick come off it and then open up towards the basket and bounce pass for the cutter. it is important to read a defense because then u can dictate ur offense from reading the deefense

In a pick and roll, the pick setter has to stand at the corner of the top of the key and the cutter has to brush of the pickers shoulder. After that, the picker rolls to the basket. A curl is set up the same way ,but the the roller cuts immediately to the basket after using the pick. And in a fade the roller uses the pick and jumps out for an open jump shot. Reading the defense is very important because if you manage to stop a play you will cause a lot of turnovers and bad shots for the other team.

With a pick and roll, a teammate goes up and blocks off the ball-handler's defender leaving a clear space to attack the basket. During this, the teammate who sets the pick cuts hard to the basket and looks for the feed from the ball-handler. With a curl, an offensive player looks for a teammate's screen and goes outside the screen and cuts hard to the basket again looking for a feed from his/her teammate. A fade is used when the defender tries to "cheat" the screen and goes under the screen allowing the player using the screen to flare out and catch the ball for an open shot. Being able to read the defense is crucial in basketball and gives the edge to the offense as they are able to locate holes in the offense where cutters can receive the ball and shooters take open shots.

A pick and roll used as picking (blocking) a defender and get a teammate going for a cut, open for the ball. However, that teammate has options to attack basket. He/she can go for a drive, simple shot, or a fade-away (harder to block...). The teammate setting up the pick can do a curl, *rotating away from the "picked". Like that, that person is away from defenders and open.
To sum it all up, in a sense, pick and roll is a distraction on the defender guarding and if done properly, the offense gets open. A curl is used to open up options when the defenders get tight around the pick and roll (roll=> curl XD) and a fade is just to get a better shot over defender....

For a pick and roll a person sets a pick at corner of the top of the key and cuts to the basket and the person using the pick runs in the opposite direction. In the curl the person using the puck cuts back towards the basket. For the fade the person who used the pick goes out to catch the ball for an open shot. Reading the defense is important to because the offense can take advantage of what the defense gives you and it will give the offense easier shots.

the way to correctly do a pick and roll is to set the pick roll of the pick then cut to the basket and do a bounce or lob to the cutter. it is important to read the defense cause you can score quicker

The correct way to do a pick and roll is the ball handlers teammate comes up and sets the pick. As he is doing that the ball handler waits for his man to roll and make that strong cut inside.That frees him up to make an easy lay-up. It is important to know what the defense is doing because you would know what to do and what plays to call. Also it allows you to set up easy shots and create plays to confuse the defense-Dee Foxx
The way to execute a pick n'roll is when the person without the ball comes up and sets a screen for the person with the ball then the screener opens up to the basket nd rolls for a bounce pass or a lobb pass which will lead to bangg bangg!2 points! It is important to read the defense becasue it makes it a lot easier to score by calling out a play that you know will definetely work.

the way to do a pick and roll is to set a pick come up then you could go for shot or bounce pass to someone thats open.

to use a pick have your teammate to lead the defender to you, then
give the defender a chance to see you and then you are free and can make a shot

To correctly use a pick and roll: The ball handler will have to set up the defender by jab stepping away from the screen while a few feet away(to get the defender looking the other way). Then dribble over the picker’s (?) topside and rub shoulders. The ball handler should create space away from the screen by dribbling hard away from screen. The picker will open up to the ball, by pivoting on his bottom foot, and try to pin one of the defenders behind him by getting low and wide. The ball handler then has the option to shoot a pull up, take it to the rim, or drop it off to the picker. He has to read the defense to decide which option to take. If he doesn’t read the defense it will lead to a turnover or bad shot.

in a pick and roll, the "screener" has to come up close tothe defender that will end up being screened and stand still with a strong sturdy base. it is the other offenders job to set his defender up with the screen and cut or drive right of the screeners hip. a curl is when the screener opens up to the ball and cuts straight to the basket. a fade is when the screener moves back or away from the ball in order to create space from his defender. using the right moves on the court an managing your team is important becUse shot selection is a huge role in success.
