1. Why did David Arseneault create "the system"?

2. What are 2 principles of the system?

3. Does Grinnell always score more than 100 points a game?

4. Grinnell is a Division 3 university, do you think the system would work at a Division 1 university? Why or why not? Do you think is could work at the high school varsity level? Why or why not?

1.) To developed an offense that is predicated on shooting as many three pointers as possible.

2.) 3 pointers, defense

3.) yes

4.) No I don't because I feel the more competitive the competition gets, the harder it will be to continuously do this. It could work at the high school varsity level because everyone's skills are all the same.

1.His team was not athletic and could not get to the basket
2.-whoever has the ball when 12 seconds are up shoots the ball
-the team must get into a full court press right away
3.The team has never scored less then 100 points but they have not won every game
4.No, i don't think it would work at a D1 program because the players are more skilled. If the team has good shooter than i think it could work at a varsity level.

he does not always score 100 points. 2 principles are shoot after 12 seconds are up then full court press right away. he did this system because he didnt have good players. this wouldnt work in a division system because the defensive players are just too good and they would just press them to take bad shots. this could work for high school varsity the same way it works for this team.

David Silversmith
Period 1
1. His players were simply not good and he wanted to try something new to rejuvenate the system.
2. You must shoot the ball if you are the player with it after 12 seconds. Another principle is that everyone has to go all out and is substituted very often. It creates chaos.
3. Yes, they always do.
4.No this would not work at a D1 university, the defenders are just too good. It would work at the high school varsity level because the players will have enough energy and most defenders could not keep up.

1. He created the system because his team wasnt that good.
2.shooting and defense
3.yes
4.No i dont think it will work at a division 1 school because it will be more competive and defense would be better . I dont think it will work at a highschool because the game would be faster and basically your rushing everything and if its not a transition thing then it wont work.

1. Arseneault created "the system" because the basketball team he coached was not very athletic and the traditional way of beating the other team with skill and athleticism obviously wasn't working.

2. The two principles are to shoot the ball as fast as you can because you only have twelve seconds to keep the ball. Also that you "go hard" all game which includes a full-court press the whole game.

3. Yes, they also scored more than 100 each game.

4. No, I do not think "the system" would work in a division 1 university because the division 3 universities are significantly less athletic and skilled than the division 1 universities. Yes, I think "the system" would work at the high school varsity level because the varsity level is more primitive and would be easier to use the system.

1. his team is not that good and he wanted to try something to spark things up a bit
2. whoever has the ball after 12 seconds must shoot it and the rest of the team goes back on defense
3.yes
4.No it wouldn't work because D1 athletes are more skilled than Grinnell's D3 opponents but I believe it may work at high schools because it is very fast paced.

1)To give his team a better chance at winning

2)3 pointers and only having the ball for 12 seconds

3)yes

4)no because division 1 is much more advanced and would have much better defense. it would probably work in highschool though.

1. He created the system because when he arrived at Grinnell the players werent very good. He wanted to coach a winning program so he created the system.

2. - Must get a shot up every 12 seconds
- Must get into full court press after each basket

3. Yes, they always score 100 pts.

4. No, it wouldn't work at a D1 school because the level of play is much higher. It probably wouldnt work in high school either because the court is smaller.

1. His team wasn't very good
2. Shoot within 12 seconds and full second press for 30 second shifts
3. Yes
4.It wouldnt work at a D1 level because you have players that can easily beat the press and are overall more skilled. It would work on a HS level

1. To create an offense devised around no particular athletic ability but sheer chaos

2. The player who has the ball after 12 seconds shoots and players go all out from the get go, then get substituted out.

3. Yes, their offense does provide them with points, but they do not mention if they win every game

4.I do not believe this system would work against any well-coached Division 1 basketball program in the long-term, initially they might be challenged by the rigorous style but in today's game defensive schemes can be adjusted to best any play style. Though thats just my argument, this team does remind of the kind of offense run by Paul Westhead at Loyola in the 80's, but then again they never won a championship either.

1) players have a general lack of athleticism so chucking the ball as often as possible is the optimal way to score points

2)ball must be shot by player who has the ball at 12 second mark, full court press after taking the shot

3) yes

4) no because D1 schools probably play much better defense than Grinnell is currently accustomed to. In high school it could probably work because offense is usually a priority over defensive play

1) he wanted to try something new since his players were not very good.
2)you got to shoot before 12 seconds
making 3 pointers
3)yeah
4)No, it will not work because basically, division 1 schools is more skilled but might work in high school.

1. Because his team was not good.
2. Quick and early shots and all out, ball centric defense.
3. Yes.
4. It will not work in D1 because of the high competition level, but in high school it could work because of the lesser competition.

1. His team was not athletic and had trouble getting to the basket.
2. The player that has the ball when 12 seconds are up shoots.
3. They have never scored less than 100, but do not always win.
4. No, because the players are more skilled. At the varsity level it probably would not work either because most team do not have good enough shooters.

because they weren't athletic and weren't good enough.

shoot a shot every 12 seconds and then put on a press

yes they average 111 ppg

yes because they are more high tempo than high school.

1.His team wasn't very good or athletic and he wanted to try something new.
2.2principles are shooting after 12 seconds, and then a full court press
3.yes
4.i don't think this system would for either. In a D1 program, the defense would be too good and they would adjust to the system.in high school, I just don't think it would work unless everyone on the team was a shooter.

1.) His team wasn't very athletic.
2.)got the ball at 12 sec, shoot. Go into full on man press after the basket.
3.)Yes they have
4.) If it works on any level of basketball, than it can work on all levels. It may need a few adjustments to work at higher levels of basketball, like division 1, or the pros, it's obviously effective on one level, so why can't it be on others.

Big Kwame,

Mrs. Dyer this is the second time im doing this, hopefully it works this time!!

1. The system was developed so that the team can score a lot of points so they can compete with others.

2. The ball must be shot within 12 secs of coming down the court

3. Yes

4. No this will not work at a division one level because athleticism and IQ are much higher.

Anonymous said...

1. His team was not as good as other teams so he created a new system to help spark his team
2. Whoever has the ball after 12 seconds takes the shot, then they go into a full court press immediately
3. They always score 100 points or more
4. It would not work in D1 because the defenders are too good. This could work at the high school varsity level because the defenders are not as good

1.) He created the system because his teammates were not that good.
2.) You must always shoot the ball if you are the player who has the ball after 12 seconds. After this you full court press right away
3.) Yes
4.) No because as you go higher and higher up in the game it gets harder and the people are much better. This would work only if everyone is the same skill level and is in a highs school team
-Rahul Roy

1) So to develop an offense based around shooting as many three pointers as possible

2) defense and 3 pointers

3) Yes

4) No because the more competitive it gets, the harder it will be to implement and run this system. This could possibly work at the high school varsity level.

1.) weak offense with only shooters and no strong big men

1) he had a offense that had trouble getting to the hoop so they shot as many threes as possible.
2)3pointers and defense
3)yes
4)no because d1 is more athletic and can have a more effective full court press.
