During the invasion games unit we discussed the importance of defending the goal. What are some ways you could apply this approach to our basketball unit?
Justin Hassani In basketball when one is on defense it is either man or zone.Meaning that one either covers one other person or one covers a certain area. In basketball if one tries to shoot you can lift your hand and prevent them from making the shot. Our team played man and so we did not allow the other team to get many shots in and the only shots they had were from outside of the three were they missed and we got the rebound. This made us gain possesion meaning that we got to controll the game.
Lillian Chen: I could apply this approach of defending the goal to our basketball unit by having good defense, making sure everyone is covered when the opponent is in possession of the ball. And I would make sure that I'm always between the basket and the guy I'm guarding. :)
Alex Levine, We could prevent the person with the ball from shooting a basket by puting our hands in the air to block the persons shot. Also, we could make sure that everybody on offense is marked and not open to recive a pass.
Some ways to defend the goal in basketball are to have a member of the team near the hoop for rebounds, have each person guarding someone of the opposing team, and stealing the ball from opposing team members.
Edison Lin In basketball we have to be between the player and the basket, always keeping an eye on them and guarding them from scoring. Like in invasion games, you want to prevent them from getting a point.
haha im the first one wow ok so im doing this now so i dont forget anyways yeah in basketball on defense much like protecting a goal you have to protect the basket. you can do this by blocking shots and getting rebounds
In basketball, you have to always stay between the opponent and the basket. This is the same as soccer (except with the goal), and football (except with the area you score in). You can also have someone always waiting near the basket, so that they can hit the ball away if the opponent gets too close.
I think defending the goal is very important in an invasion game, i play defense better than offense, so im often a defensive player in the game, what i find useful is to pay attention to the whole game, and try to read the pattern, so you can prepare to block the rival.
Make sure no one scores during basketball and play defense. Playing defense is protecting the goal or basket and preventing the other team from scoring. It is similar to the invasion games unit and that is why applying defense in basketball is also important.
In order to defend the basket in basketball, you have to guard a man. Each person on your team guards a man, so it is harder to shoot and pass. This also makes it easier to block shots and intercept passes. You should also stay between your man and the basket.

In the ivasion games unit there were goalies that protected the goal so the other team cant score. This is also in basketball. You have to block a person from the basket without goalies makeing the game harder.
Evan Treworgy-It is important to guard your basket in basketball becuase no matter how much you score if the other team can score more then you will lose.
In basketball you have to guard a man from getting the ball to put it in the basket to score.You want to steal it or block the ball.This is the same consept as the invasion games as you have to defend a goal Jonathan Kandel
Josh Yu. We have to defend the basketball hoop by acting like an obstacle for the offense. You cant let them get past you and drive in, so you pick up on your man just like the other sports.
Xixi Zhou, i can defend the basket by covering the person who is about to shoot, or play good defense when one is about to shoot, i can try to get the ball before it reaches the basket or i'll try to get the ball when it bounces off the rim before the opponent gets it. Another good defense is trying to steal the ball from another player, that way, the ball will be under my control.
Chris Papadopoulos, in basketball the objective on defense is to prevent the other team from scoring. Like in invasion games, in basketball, you always have to stay between the person you're guarding and the basket so the opposing team doesn't score.
In basketball you can play two types of defenses: man to man or zone which allow your team to sucsessfully defend the goal. And as in the other invasion games you stay between the person and the goal to prevent them from scoring
During the invasion games we had to defend the goal, which relates to basketball. In basketball you want to make sure you are marking so that the other team doesn't have an open shot. Kyle Weissenburger The importance is to guard your man so the team won't get an easy basket. You could also play a zone defense where every player has a certain area to guard that can be affective with poor shooting teams.
The closer a player gets to the hoop, the higher percentage shot he will take. If you can force him out towards the 3 point line, there will be a lesser chance ohim making it. Jon Lawson

The team could stop the person with the ball from shooting a basket by waving our hands in the air to block the persons shot. Also, we could make sure that everybody on offense being guarded by another persons so no one will be open to receive a pass.
There is also an importance of covering your man in basket ball so that they do not have an open shot on the basket.

You can block people from shooting by standing infront of that person and like do the defense move

This would help you defend your opponent by making them unable to score and you would be able to steal the ball from them.
