Period 2 Team Games

We will begin football next week and I want to see what type of knowledge you are bringing with you!

Please take a moment and define 5 of the following terms without the google. Activate your prior knowledge and make your best guess.

  2. Line of scrimage- The line where the play begins. Players must stand behind the line of scrimage before the play can start.

    Defensive back- Corners and safetys

    Blitz- Provides extra coverage to help the quaterback

    Interception- When the quarterback throws a pass and a player on the defense catches it,resulting in a turover

    Cover 1- Man to man defense

    Cover 3- 3 in the box, 2 safetys placed in the back

    Wide reciever- catches the ball

    Quaretback- Passess the ball

    Fumble- When the offense loses possession of the football; reuslts in a loss of down

  3. Taylor Noble-

    BLitz- when additional players are sent to rush the quarterback that is, try to tackle the quarterback or disrupt his pass attempt

    Quarterback- members of the offensive team and line up directly behind the offensive line. Quarterbacks are the leaders of the offensive team, responsible for calling the play in the huddle.

    Wide Reviever a key player in most of the passing plays. They try and catch the ball

    Fumble- occurs when a player, who has possession and control of the ball loses it before being downed (tackled) or scoring

    Safety- is a scoring play which results in two points being awarded to the scoring team. Safeties can be scored in a number of ways, such as when a ballcarrier is tackled in his own end zone or when a foul is committed by the offense in their own end zone

    Blitz- when a bunch of people attack the quarterback

    Interception- when someone on the other team throws the ball and you catch it

    Quarterback- the player that throw the ball to the receivers

    Fumble- when someone is holding the ball and they drop it

    1: An interception is when one team throws the ball and the opposing team catches it which results in a turnover.

    2: A fumble is when one team drops the ball and both teams have the chance to pick it up. But If the opposing team picks it up, then it is a turnover.

    3: The line of scrimmage is an imaginary line where the last down ends. It is also where the ball is placed at the beginning of the down.

    4: A quarterback is the player on the team who throws the ball to one of the receivers in the beginning of the game.

    5: The wide receiver is the player who catches the ball thrown by the quarterback and tries to run and get a touchdown if the pass was successful.

    Line of scrimmage- lines that touch from sideline to sideline parallel to the goal lines.

    Defensive back-a defender positioned off the line of scrimmage.

    Blitz-a defender charging the quarterback as soon as the ball is snapped

    Interception-defensive player catching the pass that was supposed to made to the offensive player.

    Cover 1-pass defense in which all pass defenders but one are in man coverage.

    Cover 3-zone pass defense where the field is divided into three deep zones which are covered by the free safety and two corners.

    Wide reciever-quarterback usually passes to this person to catch the ball.

    Quarterback-lines up immediately behind the center and directs the offense of the team.

    Fumble-fail to hold or maintain hold the ball after having touched it or carried it.

    Safety-a play that gives two points for the defense when the offense is tackled in the end zone.

    Interception- When the defense catches a pass meant for the offense.

    quarterback- the leader of the team because they are in control of the play. they are the one who chooses to throw the ball, and who to throw it to, or to run with the ball.

    fumble- when the ball is dropped. the team loses possesion of the ball and it counts as a down.
